Condo. The house is too expensive(I mean, 4/5ths of our funds? For something that isn't likely to directly increase our income? The base is important, sure, but I really can't see more than 2/3rds being remotely justifiable.) but we need our independence. Rent is bad...
I wouldn't want to be spending just 50000 on computer hardware. Sure, it sounds like a lot for a personal machine, but we are going to want at least three independant server farms to host our competing A.I.s on, and that is just our quirky miniboss squad. We will want additional A.I. farms for specialist agents...
I wanna budget 10000 for our personal workstation. It'll be limited, but we are on a budget and most of the work can be offloaded to automated systems. 10000 each for an A.I., most of that will probably go on extreme-speed random access memory with a healthy supply of cross-linked processors. We will probably want at least another 10000 worth of datamining to get some datasets for our infant A.I.s to play in. Really, the good datamining is probably hundreds of thousands but we can't really afford the professional stuff... We probably can't afford to skimp on bandwidth. If we can't real-time backup our quirky miniboss squad when they lead the mindless mooks on missions then, well, they could die! And direct transmissions would reveal our location immediately so we are going to need indirect stuff, none of that will be cheap. Really, we are going to need to be hacking satellites and that means boatloads of comms gear, that could easily be a hundred thousand for something pretty low-quality. We will need ongoing expenses to rent spoofs(I know, I know, you don't rent your spoofs, but you need to rent spoofs from which to hack spoofs from which to erase your data from the rented spoofs and you need to make sure that the rented spoofs are paid to avoid attracting attention to them...) and pay for deliveries. Umm, we probably need to eat? Learning to photosynthesise and getting an ultraviolent lamp should be a priority for any programmer... Have we picked race yet? I am all in favour of Venus Flytrap! And then there are costs related to making our location seem uninteresting. Vacant properties can be appealing to renovators...
Really, I don't think that we can expect to get started for less than one-hundred and fifty thousand...
