Hmm... Go into one of the sidepaths and pretend to wee, when he hears them coming (if they come), quickly turn and throw two daggers at the men (keeping one in case they get close).

((I don't see why not. Turns can be split second moment to fairly long conversations. Plus Hideki is a ninja, so I'm sure he can throw multiple objects in a single throw. If the setting didn't make it clear, I'm not really going for hard realism here. I will, if it ever comes to a point where we see firearms, use flintlocks instead of matchlocks for example. A little bit of anime logic is allowed to seep in from time to time as well.))

((I watched that some time ago, probably a few years, and really enjoyed it. The main inspiration for this was reading lone wolf and cub, which was fantastic. Elements from things like sword of the stranger, zatoichi and other such things will probably also make it in here, consciously or not.))

((Somewhat dice based. For actions that the character obviously should be able to do, I don't even roll. Climbing a ladder, making tea, or in the case of our character even sneaking into places and lockpicking. As long as there is no outside force complicating things, like wounds or a lack of time. For combat, I look at the characters skills, set a number on the dice to beat and roll. If he gets it it succeeds, if he doesn't I flip a coin or roll a smaller to decide the severity of the fail. The highest and lowest possible rolls are critical success/fails, whatever that might mean for the action being done at the time.

Honestly, it depends a lot on the situation at hand and I tend to wing it on the rules department a lot.

Also, update in a bit. Just going to eat something first.))

Turn 2

On the road to the top of Mount Zao

"Well, two can play at this game", thinks Hideki. He turns off of the path and walks between two shrubs. He pretends to take a leak, picking a position where his front is towards the mountain side and his back is to the open road, so as to not allow the two persuers any place to hide. A small breeze carries faint sounds of muffled footsteps, but still Hideki pretends to take a leak, whistling a tune as he does so.

When the persuers steps ona twig, Hideki explodes into action. He turns around, stretching his arm outward. The knife comes loose from it's hiding place in his sleeve and into his hand. With a flick of the wrist, he sends the blade whistling through the air. A wet thunk can be heard before he fully turns around to look at his attacker. A young man, no older than twenty at most, drops his wakizashi and clutches at his throat. He tries to stop the bleeding, but the knife has cut too deep. He falls to his knees, sputtering out blood and gurgling as he starts to drown in his own blood.

Hideki watches this with a dispassionate face. Just as expected, the second persuer attacks. Where the first treid stealth, this one holds his katana raised above his head and charges straight at Hideki. Sloppy, these man have obviously never been in a real battle. Hideki waits until the man is closer before rushing in himself. In a single movement, he ducks down and springs upwards toward the man. With one hand he grabd the man's wrist, keeping it in place and preventing him from slashing downward with his blade. With the other hand, he grabs his second throwing knife and thrusts it upward into the man's groin. The man lets out a peculiar kind of scream, drops his katana and crumples to the floor holding his crotch.

Hideki looks around. Nobody seems to around. Unless he can't sense them, but then they must be very, very good at hiding themselves. The young persuer seems to have bled out by now, his glassy eyes staring lifelessly at the sky. Hideki takes his first look at the second attacker. The man is slightly older than the first, probably in his mid-twenties. His clothes mark him as either a farmer or a drifter. Really, he's about as average as you can get.

Now then. One persuer down and one at his mercy, how will Hideki proceed?

Also, in what colour does Hideki speak?

Be careful, a wounded man can hide a knife or needle.  If they are assassins then finishing the job even at their death would be quite a possibility.  Particularly if the man thinks he is dying.

((That may be so, but a stab to the groin will incapacitate even the hardiest of men. In addition to that, it was shown he wasnt a trained assassin, because he was so clumsy trying to follow Hideki. He is most likely some country bumpkin swayed with the promise of silver.))

Turn 3

Hideki picks up his assailant's fallen katana and points it at the man.

"Speak, and I may yet show mercy. Who are you?"

The man groans. "I won't answer the likes of you."

Hideko delivers a swift kick to the man's groan, making him scream in pain once more.

"You country bumpkins. I could cut down a hundred of you like rice chaff. speak!"

"Hnng. Ryosei. Okuda Ryosei."

"Who sent you."

"Never. The grass cannot betray the sun!"

"What does that even me-"

Just as Hideki wonders what the man means, the guy get's a second wind and scuttles over fast and grabs his dead companion's wakizashi. Hideki raises his katana, ready to deflect the coming attack. Suprisingly, the man doesn't try to attack. Instead, he uses it to cut his own throat, looking at hideki with a look full of menace as he does so. The man dies, the only sound being heard the gurgling of his blood filled last gasps. What the hell was all that about?

Hideki shrugs and loots the two men. He gets back his two throwing knives. He takes the obi from one of them and uses it to wear the katana and wakizashi at his side. Other than the two weapons, the men only had a small pouch with about 40 bronze mon between them. Slim pickings, they must have been promised the money for the assasination only after they were succesful.

Well, should he do anything about the corpses? Or should he just continue on his way to the hermit? Or should he do something else entirely?

Let's continue on to the Hermit, but before we do, let's decapitate the corpses as a warning to any future assassins.
