Forgotten beast got into my fort through grated well

Can some beasts go through grates?  I thought I was safe... My well says 'dry' due to the grate, but the beast got through anyway.

Building Destroyers such as FBs and trolls can destroy grates if they can reach them.
Fortifications are safe though.
