Tomb with a View (OOC)


When a human dies, the soul passes on from the mortal realm and embarks on a journey through the outer darkness toward the realm of light. During this journey, shouls shed their sins and memories and become pure, but some are unable to let go of their past selves. These souls are cast to drown into the River of Blood which flows eternally.

You are a soul whose sins have weighed you down excessively, too far to be let into the realm of light without penance. As such, it is your duty to ferry souls across the River of Blood, both unborn and departed. In recent years, however, the number of souls departing has increased and all of them must be judged. If this continues, souls will remain trapped in the mortal realm and become Fiends in due time. In response, the realm of light has weakened the barrier between the mortal realm and the outer darkness, allowing ferrymen such as yourselves to cross the boundary and presumably help return things to normal.

This is a 5-player RPG set in an urban setting with an unseen disaster spreading throughout the world. As ghostly ferrymen of the past, will you leave the world to ruin or take action to save it?

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.

Mechanics: That's fine, a little extra challenge to find magic will prove interesting.

No mind control is also fine. Maybe I could add a separate trait to more easily see through illusions and the like, or is it fine added into strong will.

Plot: He knows that some of those he killed, either himself or by proxy, might have been innocent. He also questions some slaying of more humanoid monsters. While he's certainly no wild lunatic, he believes that he has sinned and refuses voluntarily to move on.

The light was more of a generic religious thing. Instead of hunters being of a specific religion, they follow the light (just and good) and battle against the dark (sinners, abominations, etc). Since the light realm only allows those without sin, I'm sure they could be connected somehow.

I see, all good then.

Illusions would fall under the category of perception in most cases, unless we're talking about a specifically magical illusion. The first would be affected by (perception), and would help you with non-illusional things, such as hunting and tracking and looking for clues. It'd count as a fourth bonus.

The magical type of illusion would be much rarer, so your ability to see through it better would be just fine added onto Strong Will. It won't make too much of a difference balance-wise until later on, conceivably.
