A island of existence, a tiny fragile bubble within the gnawing nothingness. Five refugees break through the shimmering film with a light pop. They feel eyes that are not eyes watch them through a thin film, horrible teeth gnawing, causing the film to indent. Though the five may not agree on everything, none of them wish to die.
At the centre of the bubble lies a tiny golden pearl, which seems to be what is creating this refuge. Slowly it begins to pulse in time with the heartbeats of the gods, their every breath causing a ripple along the surface of the bubble. Perhaps here the five can survive.
Feverishly they begin work, trying to stave off the endless hunger, the Devourer.
I will be taking five players to play five gods, who have been fleeing hungering entropy that steadily consumes all that is. Their best efforts to stop it have at best slowed it down, but this bubble seems like it could be what they had hoped for, a safe haven. It is now your job to strengthen the fragile wall and create worshippers to empower you so that you do not become as the devourer.
Gods will be chosen on merit. I'll start as soon as I have 5 players I'm satisfied with.
Name: What is the name your worshippers cried out as you were powerless to save them?
Roles: Each god will take up two mantles, which will form the foundation of this new creation. Choose wisely. You are then responsible for affairs within your role, and if poorly managed this will weaken the reality bulwark. (Pick two spheres)
Symbol: Your signifier, will appear on all things you make.
Appearance: None have escaped Ragnarok unscathed, what scars do you bear?
Everything Else: Feel free to write a biography, personality, goals, or anything else here.
No secret actions
Things you god can do is divided into four categories. Each God will begin with one Mighty Act and two Acts and can do up to two Deeds per turn.
1 Mighty Act = 3 Acts = 9 Minor Acts
Mighty Acts:
The largest amount of power a god can wield in any one working without things beginning to go wrong. Capable or creating and destroying worlds, creating the weaponry and armour of the gods and divine warriors capable of fighting against the Devourer
Acts:
Can create 6 population units of average mortals per act. Can create and destroy continents. Can create artifacts of mortal significance.
Minor Acts:
Common miracles. Teach a mortal race a technology, raise and sink islands, create common plants and animals or create artifacts of individual significance.
Deeds:
Things gods do with their personal attention rather than divine power. Encourage mortals to carry out certain actions or learn certain technologies. The most common way to communicate directives to mortal followers. You may instead choose to use your deeds to improve the effects of acts you perform.
The gods may gain power in three ways.
Worship:
If mortals worship you, a god gains one minor act per 3 population units of worshippers.
Alignment:
If the spheres a god manages aligns harmonically with the Golden Pearl, the resonance will give the god some bonus power.
Tribute:
Sometimes refugees will offer divine power in exchange in exchange for shelter.
The nothing does not hunger. And yet it consumes with endless thirst. The less power you have the more susceptible you are to the thin tendrils it can poke through the reality film.
Subversion:
The Nothing does not eat, twisting and warping, and yet it swallows. If the combined power of the gods is too low, and the reality is sufficiently vulnerable, some of their acts may come out twisted. Worlds harbouring darkness in their hearts, races that turn their backs on their creators. Artifacts striking the hand that made them.
Consumed:
The nothing takes you, and a new devourer is born. This might happen if you spend several turns with no divine power
Woven:
A god may choose to weave himself directly into the fabric of creation, greatly increasing the stability of reality, increasing the alignment of his spheres, allowing him to carry out three deeds and making him much more resistant to consumption and subversion. However he will no longer be able to carry out Mighty Acts or gain bonus power for having a high Sphere Alignment, and becoming a Woven requires a mighty act. This cannot be undone.
Discord:
If a the alignment of spheres becomes too low, this will cause the god to gain half the usual income from worshippers, due to a poor interface with the native reality.
Sometimes the differences between differents gods are truly irreconcilable, and there is no other option but to solve their differences through violence. There are two forms this can take. Woven are treated as having one more act when defending against such attacks. Prolonged direct combat between gods is too stressful on the fabric of the bubble, and is thus not detailed here and would be carried out blindly at the players own risk.
Expelling:
By spending more acts than their targets currently has, a god may expel another god from the bubble. However you should beware, as this would reduce the stability of the bubble as their roles are ripped away. In addition, the expelled god will still have some time to wreak havoc on the outside before the Devourer takes them.
Devouring:
By spending a mighty act, you can devour another deity if your remaining acts would be more than their acts. In this way, you could take up the mantle of their roles for yourself, maintaining the stability of the bubble. Beware however, gods are not easy to digest, and the eater may become the eaten.
