Creature size in the testing arena?
« on: July 09, 2016, 05:29:38 pm »

Does anyone know what size creatures are spawned at in the arena?  Their minimum, as though they were just born?  Their maximum?  Average?  Random?  Testing some new creatures that get much larger as they get older, like dragons, and want to make sure I'm getting a fair estimate of their maximum strength.

The wiki page is here, but it does not say what size they come in as. I would assume they spawn as adults.

He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

Yeah, I checked the wiki first.  The problem is that, like, a dragon is an adult fairly quickly, but doesn't hit its full size for 1000 years.

That leaves a big gap between 'size at adulthood' and 'size at full size'.

A pair of fully intact freshly-spawned-and-killed dragon corpses in the arena weighed 4666 and 6314 units.

139 meat, 53 fat and 80 bones for the bigger one, 110 meat, 43 fat and 66 bones for the other.

A quick raw edit and another round of headstabbing shows that the same for a fully grown dragon would be 32587 weight, 685 meat, 204 fat and 373 bone. Not...very close.

Newborn dragon comes out at 6 weight, 6 meat, 6 fat and 4 bone. D'aww. :P

I'd recommend temporarily modding it to be born full-sized and test it like that if you want to know their maximum strength.

The main reason people always claim dragons are fragile is that they have never faced full grown ones. A full grown dragon is a extremely large and powerful creature. They are like 5 times the size of a bull elephant.
