Nobunaga mumbles something to himself, and an array of yellowish-white light appears in front of him, holding a passing resemblance to a multi-monitor computer display, with strange symbols that flicker as he pokes at them and occasionally at no prompting whatsoever, as well as a few things written in plain Japanese text.

Joshua sighs as he removes an over-sized weathered tome from his rucksack and flips through various pages. Upon finding some sort of wanted page, he begins to intently write as he looks around the room, occasionally setting his eyes on someone or something in the room. Joshua does however seems to be greatly interested on Nobunaga's activities, seeming to write vigorously once new symbols appear, whether they be Japanese or not.

Nobunaga pauses for a moment. "What are you writing?"

Joshua looks up from his book, "Well, mostly the characters and symbols you seem to be dealing with. I'm quite interested in things such as those unusual characters, err, may I ask what exactly they are?"

"Encrypted characters, essentially. They're keyed to my psyche; I'd have to spend a bit of time messing about with the spellwork to grant someone else access. The non-encrypted ones are unimportant data. I'm working on a spell right now, just having a bit of trouble getting the kinds of effects I want without too much of a power draw..."

"...interesting. Spellcasting and acquiring spells for me is more about fitting a certain set of rules and criteria than it is about symbols."

"So one could say that your hosting a computer composed of these characters, if not physically, but to your spirit? Or am I misunderstanding this? Where you would also use a type of rune to manipulate energies? If so, we might be able to talk about theory if your using symbols, speech, and such to create and use spells"

"It's not about the characters, I shouldn't have assumed that everyone would understand. The characters are just an abstraction, a way to break down the process of spellcasting into tangible pieces that can be picked up and set down without some sort of catastrophic mana burst or blowing out half of my qi or some such. Though this is the sort of spell that won't have to be 'cast' at all, with what I'm trying to do here.

That would be it, yes. It was a lot of work to set up and it's not quite perfect, and as I just said it's more of a tool to approach the process than a fundamental part, but I can see this conversation happening in the future."
Nobunaga continues to manipulate the symbols as he speaks.

"With that thinking in mind, would it not be possible to setup a standardized character system that you have pre-made to create spells at a significantly increased and efficient pace? Perhaps even not requiring trial and error if the situation is urgent enough? Or are you already one-step ahead of me?"

Nobunaga frowns for a moment, thinking. "Hold on. . . Okay. That might be possible, but possibly somewhat difficult or risky. As I said, the characters aren't an integral part of the process; it's actually much more organic than one might think, which is part of why this project is so difficult to implement. I am not sure that tying what is essentially my life force to a set of standardized characters is a good idea, particularly when there are such things as psionics and other spiritual hacking methods that would love to find such a weakness as regular character set with direct access to the soul."

"I suppose the difference in the sources of our abilities do bring different implications when applying the same tactic, perhaps it could be a possibility to attempt this on a much smaller scale at a later time. Perhaps even off-sourcing the creation of spells to a linked magical computing object, though even that does bring it's own set of vulnerabilities. Psionics does always have to be a pain to protect from when talking about things such as this." Joshua shrugs after his recognition of the issues with his ideas

"I suppose it might be more plausible if I could link the spell to some other source of power, as you say... hm. I don't know if that would even work, though. I suppose becoming a shikaisen is something similar, but that's essentially displacing one's entire soul at least temporarily, so the principles might not apply. . . and I'm not aware of the full details of the process, either." A definite note of frustration enters his voice at this last.

"Perhaps here in Voidlight it could be possible to enlighten ourselves on the possibilities of such things, perhaps someone has already dealt with such things quite intensively. After all, this is just theory-crafting" He smiles once those last words were said.

Maw collapses the folding cup and takes a seat on their own travel bag, collapsing the handle on top and laying it flatways.

Nobunaga merely grunts and nods in response, returning to his work.
