Yeah the strong aspect of the game is it doesn't tell you everything.

The weak aspect is it doesn't tell you anything. Most of the time.

What it does tell you is not to be Bad King Ugrain.

And that's fantastic, because Bad King Ugrain was a terrible role model for kings everywhere.

I once read the list of all of Bad King Ugrain's failures. He's frankly legendary for living long enough to fuck up literally everything.

And, to be fair, they do warn you that it's not going to be pretty if you keep antagonizing them. So, one can't say it's really out of the blue.
Yeah, my issue is that the event itself just feels kind of lazy, for a game that at least tries to appear as though it does some number-crunching and simulation behind the scenes. It'd be like if in DF when you pierce into the HFS it just gives you a screen that says "Your fortress crumbles, game over."

then again one bad deed is
""Bad King Urgrain whipped a poet, and that poet wrote the sagas that preserve his name in infamy."

http://kingofdragonpass.wikia.com/wiki/Urgrain

can also be a case of unreliable narrator as there are many in game.

After looking into it I am actually a bit sad the Ducks are the most interactive of all the other factions and races.

On a side note: I actually didn't know Centaurs were beastmen, for the longest time I honestly thought that was a case of unreliable narrator and they were just say mongol-like people who were extremely adept with horses.

Horse-spawn/Grazers are the real mongols (with some north american natives thrown in).

And it is pretty sad we can barely interact with the other non-humans, with trolls being the second most interact-able of the lot.

I guess having one of the main gods literally being the god of freeken diplomacy doesn't mean you are necessarily diplomatic :P

The Orlanthi are as paranoid as they come. Some of them are afraid of the Ducks. The Ducks.

Ducks are pretty much the only reason why I never pick the beastmen as the ancestral enemies.

Ditto. I'd played several games and just....kinda ignored them. Then one game I was like "You know what, fuck these ducks." Took half their land, demanded tribute, the works.

Then this happens and you think "Oh how cute they have little helmets" and the next thing you know your hall is full of blood and it aint their's.

Besides, everyone knows that the best ancestral enemy is the hated Sea.

Also, the ducks have pretty much infinite food for trade.
