Divinity- a Godgame (IC)
« on: July 07, 2016, 09:09:40 am »

At first there was nothing.

And then there was something.

To be more accurate, this something was what would make the nothing into anything.

What could be said about six upstart spirits, six wandering souls looking for a home? As time would show, there were many tales to be told. First though, there would need to be mortals to know them and that of course would require a place to house them. Without a further ado, the gods thus settled into Creation. The six were:

Many-Eyed Ulkhan, Unraveller of Knowledge
Cloth-Hidden Kyazir, Shaper of Beauty
Cycle-spinning Nixos, Nature's Weaver
Gift-giving Nosh'Noff, Guardian of Growth
Laughing Radgorix, Patron of Trickery
and Scale-holding Grektigei, Benefactor of Heroes

And so, the great game began.

Ulkhan slithered through nothing, eyes trying to catch every tiny detail as he eagerly sought to uncover new knowledge. This was a rare opportunity, with nothing else cluttering up Creation, Ulkhan had a brief window of opportunity to examine the fundemental workings of reality and creation before the other gods started making things that would cause interference and noise.

Use 1 Act to examine Creation, reality and nothingness, trying to grasp their secrets.
Use 1 Action to spin silken threads of nothingness

Tenderly crawling across the vast expanse of oblivion, Nixos pondered.  In the distance, which could have been no distance at all, he saw the serpent, flailing away.  More would come.  He felt it, the hairs on his body prickling in anticipation.  But...something was wrong.  The Spider God understood, without knowing.  There had to be SOMETHING.  Otherwise he was just a detached...observer.  And that would not be allowed to stand.

But what to create with?  Over in the non-distance, the serpent sought to create its own webs, webs of uncreation.  Interesting.  But rudimentary.  Nixos was the Weaver, and he would live up to his name.

He began, with a tremendous effort, to create from himself the first vestiges of...not darkness, the opposite of darkness.  Darkness was his instinct, his primal reaction, and so the opposite was created.  Light.  Webs of light stretching across eternity.

Use one Mighty Act to create Light, an orb web of glowing energy, surrounding the known universe.  Said light is not constant, operating in bursts and patches, allowing dark to exist in various points at various times, but otherwise allowing for the formation of true matter.

Nosh'Noff harrumphed. "I suppose if the God of Nature is out, I can hardly expect to get out of this without creating a planet myself, can I? Oh, very well then!"

The rotund deity moved... forwards, such as such a thing could exist in nothingness, and a single dollop of brilliant red began slowly extruding from the top of his tapering stalk. Abruptly it exploded, untold quantities of molten rock surging all around, waves and mountains of incandescent red crashing into and around each other. At last it slowed and stopped its outward expansion, but did not slow its vehemence in the slightest. Volcanoes of half-molten stone spewed far more liquid variants of the same skyward, lavabergs collided, great seas of lava stretched and roiled against one another. Nosh'Noff bobbed to the surface of one such sea like a cork, content to merely watch for a while as his creation seethed and shifted, giving and devouring itself in equal measure.

Then a dollop of pure blue began to form, only to explode as its brother did, tidal waves launching themselves outward from where the deity had once been visible. Molten rock was instantly cooled to a solid, brittle coating that instantly shattered, ejecting more lava which itself cooled further. Waves of steam outpaced those of water, kicking up violent storms on a violent world. Rain fell to the ground as these clouds became overburdened, and gradually the world achieved something of an equilibrium, its watery coating helping to stabilize the worst of its volcanic excesses, and its volcanic excesses giving life and vibrance to its watery coating. Again Noff'Nosh appeared as a cork at sea, though this time in a sea of water.

Again he watched for a time, before a dollop of stormy black began to form and abruptly detonate into a cacophonous maelstrom that swept the surface of his planet. Breathable air added to the still-barren world's habitability and provided another layer of insulation and medium for change, carrying great ash clouds and storms far more predictably than before. Again Nosh'Noff bobbed gently in a hurricane powerful enough to shred stone, before gently alighting from his world and gazing at it from above.

Eternally generous, eternally hungry. Volcanic activity, rough seas, and frequent storms all gave and took as they were wont, ensuring whatever lived there would never want for gifts from the earth, seas, or sky. Other than peace, obviously, that might be a slight commodity. But it was a fitting gift from its father, and so thus he named it:

"Gift, the First World. May it support much life, and in ever greater quantities."

1 Mighty Act: Nosh'Noff creates the fairly volatile world.
Action: Nosh'Noff idly tries to exude amber gemstones. There's little else to affect with mundane efforts, after all.

For the intermittent and timeless void the gods had found themselves in, Kyazir merely stood back and watched, letting the other gods wrought the universe into being and admiring their work.

For the moment, Kyazir does nothing.

Radgorix looks into the void and thinking for a bit he changes into a fox with dark blue fur.  He than starts running at a speed faster than nothing and anything. When running at this speed small shining creatures appear from the speed itself. Radgorix changes back to his form and looks at his creation. He than speaks with a kind voice. You are my creations, the lights of the universe. You will travel around the void guiding the people of this universe. This will be your goal and follow it you will.
Use one act to create the lights of the universe. They are harmless and their goal is to create constellations that the mortals will be able to navigate from, however they might sometimes trick people, by creating constellations where they are not supposed to be.

Kyazir is not the only of the gods to leave the nascent universe be. A white-armored, winged figure stands there, silent and still. Mortals did not exist, and so karma was yet to be there to be enforced. Thus, Grektigei had decided that he currently served no purpose... And so he did nothing.
Grektigei does not do anything as of yet.

Turn 1

Ulkhan The Unraveller

Using the opportunity afforded by the presence of nothing, Ulkhan examined the innerworkings of the universe, seeking to learn more. A close inspection reveals a universe made up of sub-atomic particles and yet even smaller particles. Oddly, these did not form into atoms, simply existing independently. Surrounding all this matter however is ambient divine essence, seemingly unconnected to any of the six deities present. Ulkhan's attempts to access the essence is met with failure although from his observations, there seems to be enough ambient essence to feed a god's imagination for eons. After a quick look towards the source of the essence, he revise his estimates; the supply could last for the duration of Creation. It seems that the essence is slowly oozing into creation via the six rifts from which he and his kin entered.

Having used up his allocated essence, Ulkhan then began spinning the nothingness of Creation which, despite his excellent weaving skills, proves to result in nothing. It seems that Nothingness is indeed nothingness.

Ulkhan acquires [Privy Knowledge: Basic Understanding of Creation]*!
Ulkhan fails at weaving Nothingness!

Kyazir

The god simply watched.

Nixos

With godly presence, Nixos created Light. And it was good.

With its placement, there was heat. There was warmth. There was motion. In a timeless moment, the ambient matter of Creation coalesced, organizing into more complex structures and shapes. Under the great heat of the occasional Lightflash, small bangs ruptured, creating vast gaseous clouds and in time, planets.

And yet, there was still the Dark. Where the Light flashed not, darkness remained where matter failed to move and grow.

Nixos create Light, a vast web surrounding the universe that occasionally lights up
Lightflashes from Light allow for the organisation of matter and produces smallbangs! Small gas clouds and planetoids begin forming!

Nosh'Noff

Not to be outdone by the spider, Nosh'Noff created Gaia, the first world, a world fit for life and in due time, death. In but a few eons, life soon flourished and in a blink of a god's eye, the gods noticed the presence of vast undersea ecosystems. The Light, as great as it was, failed to pierce the ashen atmosphere of Gaia and so life undertook a different form. Using the nutrients expelled from hydro thermal vents and terrestrial volcanoes, organisms soon thrived. Vast gardens of tube worms and other creatures soon became established, feeding on them as they themselves fed on the volcanoes.

In some places, organisms became reef-builders, creating hardy habitats that offered refuge against the world's storms, although the constant volcanic activity often broke such reefs apart every few centuries.

Above the water, little mundane lasted for long. Though the air was breathable, there was nothing on land but barren rock and crushing gravity. The few mundane communities instead were focused around the volcanoes that barely breached the ocean's surface and even then most life was amphibious.

However, in some parts of the world, life evolved yet a different way. The rock around many volcanoes instead animated, seemingly imbued by ambient essence. Not requiring food but instead feeding on essence, these lithofauna were usually slow-moving creatures more interested in feeding upon each other than bothering with the odd wildlife that occasionally entered their habitats.

As an afterthought, Nosh'Noff trys to create amber gemstones. With much concentration, his body creates a leaf very reminiscent of a gem.

Nosh'Noff creates Gaia!
Ecosystems develop around the world's volcanoes!
Lithofauna is created!

Radgorix

With little flair, Radgorix created small twinkling lights throughout Creation.

In contrast to the great Light that surrounded Creation, these lesser lights- stars- and lights that were not truly there -false stars- were eternal and immovable-until they were not- thus offering future mortals something to look at in the sky.

Radgorix creates stars and false stars!

Grektigei

Gretigei does nothing of note.

Nixos was spent, creating the Web of Light, and his skull slipped into a sneer at the other gods who chose to bide their time.  Creation beckoned, and now life!  Nixos desired to be the first on this new world, to see its inhabitants.

Venturing down into the dark expanse of water, earth, and ash, Nixos gazed upon the small beings trying to stay alive, by stepping on everything else.  It was good.  Not particularly complicated, not yet, but from humble beginnings, Nixos sensed a beautiful complexity would arise.

In the meantime, there were the rock-creatures.  It was time to be known to these creatures, among the first beings to experience this new world.  Time to introduce them to mortality.

Nixos uses one Action to attempt to kill one of the lithofauna, and reveal his arachnid presence to them.

Ulkhan encircled Gaia in his coils, his eyes looking at everything, not wanting to miss anything that happened on its surface. Under his focused staring new creatures started coalescing upon the world, the first thinkers, made to learn and know.

Ulkhan uses 1 Mighty Act to create the Knon, intelligent six-legged reptilian multiheaded hydra-like creatures, on Gaia. They are capable of telekinesis. As they gain more knowledge, these creatures grow more heads, with each head indicating a milestone in the Knon's total knowledge. Each additional head increases the size and power of the Knon. They can gain knowledge and memories from consuming the brains or brain analogues of other creatures (including inorganic creatures like the Lithofauna). Usually they'd need to consume several brains to gain an extra head however, unless it was one of the heads of another Knon they consumed, or the brain of a particularly wise and learned sage.

In addition, Knons gain little benefit from consuming brains that only contain knowledge they already possess, so there is no real incentive to consume all the brains they can, since they will usually contain similar information if taken from the same source, like a single village.

The Knon are perfect amphibians, being at home both deep underwater with its crushing pressure and on the mostly barren land with its crushing gravity. They are omnivorous and possess sharp senses. If a living Knon's head is severed without being consumed, it withers into dust within a few seconds as the severed head regrows. The rest of their bodies will also regenerate, even if consumed, but at a slower rate, taking minutes or hours instead of seconds.

Radgorix seeing Ulkhans creation, hie thought of creating mortals himself. His fur turned light blue as he formed the Radarax. The Radarax are amphibious humanoid creatures, with fish tails helping them swim fast. They live in the underground caves of the planet. Radgorix than traveled to the mortal realm and taught the Radarax how to make traps that could trap even the almighty Knons. Radgorix than used the rest of his power to make the planet more survivable, by adding simple underwater water and land plants that could be eaten by the mortals.
Use one act to create the Radrax.
Use the second act to teach them trapping.
Use the third act to create simple plants.

Nosh'Noff danced to and fro, perhaps enjoying his new decoration a little too much. Still, he did eventually remember that he had work to do, somewhat.

"Oh yes, magnificent job, wouldn't you say?" he declared to no one in particular. "Quite stunning, really, truly the jewel of all creation. No doubt all beings will for all time deeply appreciate the sheer generosity of its esteemed creator."

"However, there are currently none to give thanks more directly," Nosh'Noff mused, peering at the various, largely primitive life forms of his world. His grandchildren, he decided, spawn of his spawn as it were. Yes, all life everywhere was clearly his grandchildren.

Gathering up some of these, smooth worms in this case, he began multiplying and molding them. What shambled forth when he was done looked like nothing so much as heavyset humanoids made of large, smooth worms... which, more or less, they were.

"The Grigoi," he affectionately named them, as they took to Gaia's seas. Though amphibious, most found the water much easier to sustain their hefty bulk in. Despite their appearance and origins, most of their component worms were far too specialized and well-fused to even loosely be considered separate entities, but what modularization they possessed granted them a few benefits. They were remarkably resilient, having good regenerative abilities in general and a limited ability to shift the form and function of existing components to recover from otherwise crippling injuries. Lost portions could be regenerated entirely, and indeed severed limbs and the like would endeavor (usually without success, owing to nutritional concerns) to regenerate the entire rest of their body.

Their ability to grow both by increasing the size and number of worms made it relatively easy for them to adapt to whatever size they found themselves at, enabling them to grow indefinitely with age and nutrition. As might be expected of Nosh'Noff's chosen they were gluttonous and proud,  enjoying feasting, growing to large sizes and producing large broods, owning shiny objects, and otherwise the simple, preferably excessive pleasures in life.

Though they needed no encouragement to behave properly, Nosh'Noff feared that they might not possess enough food simply eating what was available, and so endeavored to teach the the secrets of cultivating yet more tasty things to eat.

Nosh'Noff uses 1 Act to create the Grigoi, gluttonous heavyset humanoids with a peculiar appearance.
Nosh'Noff uses an Action to encourage the Grigoi to develop agriculture.

Grektigei turned to watch the creation of so many mortals, and nodded, his helmet covering any expression on his face behind that gesture of satisfaction. Moving his armor, which creaked slightly from that initial eon of disuse, great power shone at Grektigei's fingertips, before it spread into gossamer-thin threads and laid itself into a web over the world, especially around the lands of the various mortals, before it absorbed into the world.

"Karma. Now it will come to be, and now it will be enforced." This web would form a kind of energy all over the world, that would become a core, integral part of it: the Essence of Heroes. The Essence of Heroes would ensure that many blessed individuals would learn the skills to battle evildoers and monsters, would receive great fortune, and would travel the world to put their skills to use. Heroes, as the individuals that the Essence blessed were to be known as, would be the tools of karma -- Grektigei had created the Essence of Heroes so that those blessed by it were those with strong senses of justice who did great deeds, so that those who did evil deeds would become their targets.

Grektigei uses a Mighty Act to create the Essence of Heroes, which blesses any sentient being who does a great good deed and has a sense of justice, making thrm a Hero and greatly increasing their physical abilities, skills, and luck -- Heroes tend to stumble into wealth, love, and such like that. It also specifies those who do great evil deeds as the natural enemies of said Heroes.
