So according to unofficial media reports, Trump has won the EC vote, and will become the 45th President of the United States. The GOP people have once again proven themselves to be very good and obedient slaves to Russia.

Interestingly enough, there were no defectors among GOP ranks. All faithless electors this year? Democrats. Great job, guys.

I don't think you can fit an individual's personal beliefs on a horseshoe any more than you can on a line.

Yeah, but horseshoe theory doesn't handle personal beliefs. 90% of the time when discussing beliefs in a meta way, an abstraction held by a slightly larger group of people (a party, a sect, an entire paradigm, any size above the individual) is used, which is somewhat easier to fit on a spectrum. (or any kind of graph, really)

And anyway, it's not really about arranging beliefs in a specific order. It's just the general observation that extremism tends to show the same characteristics regardless of its particular political flavor.

Um, Trump got 306, and Kyle there is saying Trump would get 305 by his estimate, so, he's thinking that there will be a republican defector.

Anyhow, on CNN, as of a half hour ago, there's been only four 'faithless electors', all in Washington state.

Not really surprised about the EC vote.  The Republicans knew they'd win so there was no point in making pointless protest votes.

Unrelated (and I don't think it's been posted here yet), but my state is proposing to mandate censorship technology on all new computers so that you have to pay $20 to view porn.  It's ostensibly some measure to help with human trafficking and to keep minors from being exposed to porn.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/12/19/14010830/south-carolina-porn-ban-bill-chumley-computers

I think I'm getting allergic to politics.  It just all seems to do nothing but make me angry anymore.

The people proposing the bill have to know it won't pass or will be struck down as unconstitutional, so why are they wasting time and money even proposing it?  We've got lots of other issues in this state, like the fact that you can tell you entered the state just because the roads magically turn to crap.  Can we focus on fixing some of that instead of proposing legislation that's impossible to enforce at best and would drive business out of the state at worst?

All these reports about faithless electors about to stump the Trump in the Electoral College, all these videos, all these pleas, petitions, threats... and then pretty much every single faithless elector votes against Hillary.

Oh yes, one faithless Republican. Wasn't there talk about the Hamilton coalition or something of like 15 GOP electors that have declared themselves against Trump? Where are they, in the same place as Ted Cruz?

@Telgin: How the heck would they even be able to enforce that, or do it in the first place? You'd have to somehow teach a program to recognize porn, which is a weird thing to do in itself IMO,

There were apparently two other electors who tried to cast a faithless vote, but failed, one in Maine and the other in Minnesota.

So according to unofficial media reports, Trump has won the EC vote, and will become the 45th President of the United States. The GOP people have once again proven themselves to be very good and obedient slaves to Russia.

The Hamilton coalition was a real thing, but no idea what happened to them, I think some were in Washington state, but there were like 10 of them.

There was a rumor going around of 15 other electors possibly separate from the Hamilton group, and not neccesarily GOP, but that amounted to nothing but a rumor apparently.

They said they weren't doing shit if it wasn't a sure thing.

I don't think it was EVER a sure thing.

Thank god that guy in Washington ultimately went faithless for a member of his tribe rather than Bernie Sanders. I was worried he was going to get dragged through the mud because of it.

@Telgin: How the heck would they even be able to enforce that, or do it in the first place? You'd have to somehow teach a program to recognize porn, which is a weird thing to do in itself IMO,

The only way would be to create a state-wide registry of people who had permission to view porn, plus a state database of porn websites that were blocked, and all internet traffic would have to flow through a state firewall that filtered it out.  Content recognition wouldn't have a hope of working.  But, to be fair, neither would such a crazy scheme as a state-wide permission registry.  It would be circumvented routinely and effortlessly.  Not to mention I can't imagine any ISPs getting on board with having to help set up such a firewall system, especially since the $20 fee won't be going to help pay for anything like that.

Although, instead, the bill implies that anyone selling computers would instead have to install software that did it.  I have no idea how that would even work.  That would require computer manufacturers like Dell to write some really complicated software that interfaced directly with the OS's firewall or network drivers, which would be hopeless since cracks would be made almost immediately.  And, again, the manufacturers aren't going to want to pay for software like that to be written.

It seems to be intending to be impossible. Because there's no mechanism, all new computers must have the $20 tax included in purchasing it.

Personally if I were a computer company like Dell, I would just stop selling computers in south carolina. If people want them, they'll go out of state or order them online.

Someone in Texas's EC has apparently voted Ron Paul. It's happening!
