So far, the USA media has done a great job of informing the entire world about the untold political might of Putin and doing the exact opposite of making him seem weak.

Now the dillema is how exactly do we respond? The whole thing is verging on an act of war (the way I'm hearing some people tell it), but launching a massive cyberattack risks further escalation of cyberattacks.

Also, no duh that he's personally involved.

edit: I don't see that specific story anywhere else. News confirming that Putin himself was behind it would be big news, but I don't see it elsewhere.

At least that's the CEO of Twitter's version of events. According to a Trump spokesman, they couldn't be at the meeting because "the conference table was only so big". What's next? Exclude important ambassadors from meetings because you ran out of chairs?

Actually, via Vox, Trump's team says that twitter wasn't invited "because they weren't big enough.". So, in laymans terms, "you're too poor to be in this club HA! HA! HA!". No surprise Trump only thinks in monetary terms.

I know, but the two really haven't interacted much other than a courtesy phone call or two, plus, given how thin-skinned Trump is, it doesn't seem like it'd be hard to have a falling out.

The Constitutional definition is that "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.". The current US legal provision is " "whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

It is entirely possible for a nation to be considered an enemy without an active state of war, and no legal definition of which I am aware claims otherwise. Case law is very narrow on the subject, as most people that would probably fall under the definition of treason were instead convicted of other offenses, with only eleven (Six in WWII, one for participation in the Battle of Blair Mountain labor uprising, one from the Civil War, One for leading Fries Rebellion in 1800 and two for the Whiskey Rebellion) convictions in US history.

that's the whole point. you don't respond to alleged attacks unless there something more beyond a single quote from a single source citing 'anonymous officials' - meanwhile people should respond to 'anonymous sources' demanding evidence. which is what the House Intelligence Committee asked for, but most stuff will be classified thus the people won't be able to effectively judge the situation and will be required to trust their call.

what the people can do is to squash the alarmist with a healthy dose of skepticism and avoid falling from both sides ruses, avoiding pushing either agenda and instead rewarding level headed people. instead I see people already talking about getting up in arms for this and that, which personally terrifies me.
