Libya basically suffered the same fate thanks to Gaddafi deciding to die hard up to doing crazy shit like bombing his own capital city.

He wouldn't have allowed regime change regardless.

I recognized John Bolton's name from W's administration. I think I know why Trump wants him!

Critics allege Bolton tried to spin intelligence to support his views and political objectives on a number of occasions. Greg Thielmann, of the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR), was assigned as the daily intelligence liaison to Bolton. Thielmann stated to Seymour Hersh that, "Bolton seemed troubled because INR was not telling him what he wanted to hear ... I was intercepted at the door of his office and told, 'The Under Secretary doesn't need you to attend this meeting anymore.'" According to former coworkers, Bolton withheld information that ran counter to his goals from Secretary of State Colin Powell on multiple occasions, and from Powell's successor Condoleezza Rice on at least one occasion.[67]

Libya suffered because it was a degree of threat to western interest.

In other words, Bolton favors life in an echo chamber, and cannot cope with that horrible reality outside.

Damn those persistent objective facts and their refusal to go away!  Maybe if we ignore them, we can proceed as planned!

Both. It was a dictatorship run by a narcissist, who did not give the western plutocrats what they wanted.

I'm not surprised at all. Its basically straight out of 1984, which our, and Britain's govts have been using as a handbook for govt lately.

Bolton wanted only goodfact, and goodthink, to come from the ministry of truth.

No that's not really correct. Gaddafi had been cozying up to western interests for decades, and in 2010 he did a deal to sell off most remaining Libyan government corporations to foreign multinationals. Basically he'd sold out, and was on the cusp of becoming exactly what we like - a free-market-friendly dictator, instead of the socialist dictator he started out as. Part of the backdrop to the revolution is that in 2000-2010 large sectors of the Libyan economy had already been privatized, leading to a situation with about 30% unemployment (which is basically the effective goal of privatization - to raise prices, thus reducing service demand, allowing the buyer to sack workers and make a profit). This is stuff that makes your populace very unhappy, but western interests are actually in favor of such economic "reforms". Sure, we had to disown him when the shit hit the fan just like they did with Mubarak in Egypt, but he was actually doing exactly what western interests wanted him to do. The fact is, he was about to sell us a lot of stuff, but without a dictator to maintain security, the value of the investments there is much lower. We didn't want that.

The Iraq War was a different matter: USA invades, spends trillions of dollars, Bush-Administration friendly war profiteers suck up billions. Basically, they invaded and looted a country, but the actual profit was from gouging US taxpayers, not extracting value from Iraq itself. But they had to pump in a lot  of tax money for every $ that their friends were siphoning off. If you think any of the missing money in Iraq was an accident, did I mention that Bush/Cheney hand-picked the "auditors" for the Iraq reconstruction fund, but they weren't "auditors". They weren't even "accountants". They didn't even have an "office". It was one guy who ran multiple companies out of a suburban home, and was mainly known for kitchen renovations. I kid you not. Even the senate investigators are saying this. Over $12 billion these guys were supposed to be overseeing disappeared, but when you realize they literally made a special effort to put Mickey Mouse in charge of the vault, you begin to think, this can't have been an accident. Some high-up people in the Bush Administration went to special efforts to ensure that nobody with knowledge of accounting went anywhere near those books.

You know modern warfare sucks when your profit isn't actually coming from looting your enemies. Where's that viking spirit?

Everybody involved in anything that starts on twitter and ends in a courtroom should rethink their lives.

Yeah, that's not the smartest thing to tweet.

We've had people in this very thread threatening Trump's life.

Pretty sure the only assassination threats here were "I'm not saying but..."" and second amendment jokes making fun of the fact that he all but openly called for the assassination of Clinton if she won.

Oh man, this means Scott Adams will need to get off Twitter to coordinate his promised Trump assassination plot a couple years from now.

What was it President Obama said? When Trump succeeds, America succeeds?

to be fair, I think case 1 is legit (private shop owner should be able to refuse service for whatever reason) while it's case 2 which is worrisome: government employers should not discriminate, whatever they religion, because their employer (the government) is a non religious entity.
