He's surrounded himself with True Believers, though. Pence and Bannon for example.

I got excited for a second, but nevermind. This is fucking disgusting. Space exploration is a mission of peace and scientific advancement. Stop militarizing space, you bastard! Even the Cold War didn't manage that!
Militarization is literally the reason we HAVE a space program. You say the Cold War didn't manage that, but the whole moon landing space race was basically a pissing match to tell Russia we could send nukes anywhere we fucking please.
Space exploration has never been a mission of peace and scientific advancement. That all happened afterward when everybody calmed down.
Actually both, if you believe Von Braun. SCIENCE funded by the military-industrial complex.

Sorry to butt in, but I just read an interesting piece at wapo.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/11/08/a-new-theory-for-why-trump-voters-are-so-angry-that-actually-makes-sense/?tid=hybrid_experimentrandom_2_na

It apparently predates the election by just a tiny bit, but seems to be spot on with what I have also observed in rural america.

Just putting it here because the question of "why" still seems to be getting asked.  Fits in very nicely with my position of "people are fed up with the ineffectiveness, inattention, and hysterionic shit of the left." For why trump had a groundswell there.

Yeah, it fits the whole rural vs urban/suburban divide theory going around. Also, what was the point of WaPo italicizing parts that they think are 'rural speak'? It was kind of jarring to keep running into the italicizing where it doesn't make sense with tone. Not to mention seeming a little, I dunno, not-understanding maybe? Like 'ooh, here's the rural talk!' Plus they forgot to italicize the other parts where she was talking about the rural peoples complaints.

That part is mentioned at the prelude of the article.

I know, but that doesn't stop it from being jarring and breaking the flow. They seem to be wording it like 'here's where she starts talking funny', it just seems dismissive to me, I dunno.

Thing I'd have to disagree with the most, obviously enough, is that statement near the beginning that the folks weren't hoodwinked, heh. They absolutely were, but it's a hoodwinking that's been building for decades.

Probably said it before, but, again. That these folks thought they weren't given attention and weren't getting effective aid wasn't something unknown. That's why so much policy, so much of the message coming specifically from the DNC, was aimed firmly at the groups in question. That these folks didn't have enough exposure to life outside their sphere and formed opinions accordingly, isn't some kind of revelation. Folks've been trying to figure out how to crack that for years, to little avail. It's a situation, with however much intent there was behind it, that the GOP and conservative elements in general have been engineering for years. They've stopped and strangled efforts to help these communities, and then told them it was the hand extended or right there with 'em what did it. Fed a lie, or at least a delusion, and it worked. Y'can't really get someone to listen or notice when they're refusing to hear or see. Still got no clue what to do about that except lie to 'em and say and do shit they will.

Just a thought, but castigating them is not a good way to establish dialog.

Also, such folks are results oriented. Promises, and talk do not sate them. They see the rich getting richer, and the middle class continue to shrink, even when there were dem controlled govt years. Hence the raging dissatisfaction.

Then figure out one that'll goddamn work because nothing else seems to, either, and at least castigation can keep parts of your own base riled up.

Actually deliver something that isn't wrought with doublespeak? Something like getting bridges built in their areas. Like, for real. There is a huge amount of ruined and crumbling infrastructure in the rural areas, that get ignored, while teen mothers appear to get coddled.

Such things do not lend to their believing you.

Wierd, like for goddamn real, we have been doing shit like that for decades. Generations. Even as the GOP steadily worked to make it harder or impossible. That doesn't work.

I don't get why the media heavily concentrate on why people voted trump when they need to ask why people didn't vote for clinton. the real reason for trump's election isn't his overwhelming success due to an awakening of dormant racist or economical deprived sentiments, it's clinton overwhelming defeat.

True that. i was shocked to see the state the US roads/bridges are in just a one or two hours drive away from the major cities in California.

Changing the leadership of the DNC and Dems in general would certainly be a step in the right direction, and the Dems have to figure out a way to actually reach those people where Trump succeeded and others failed.

Getting things done and repairing infrastructure would be a win for both parties, unfortunately, McConnell is like 'NOPE! Not a priority!'. Makes me think we need another bridge or two collapsing to get the attention of politicians that action is needed.

Hahaha, I can tell you why the media is doing that. Because probably a good three quarters or better of the reason is them. FTFE.
