Well, I mean more rationalizing the comment rather than their support. The previous stuff could be shrugged aside ("He didn't say all Mexicans are rapists", "Who doesn't use tax deductions", "He knows first hand how to corrupt politicians so he can deal with it".) Here, you can't. Even those quote of yours are all saying "Welp, this really sucks, but I still prefer him for reason XYZ."*

Real talk, if Hillary had this exact scenario happen inverted, complete with sorry-not-sorry apology, it would have probably forced me to vote for Johnson or Stein.

I think you're missing one of the major differences between this and, say, Trump's racism. Those time he was talking about how other people are, what those people do. This time he was talking about what he himself are and does.

It'd still be something of an initial shock. Though I guess you're right, given that the Italians managed to elect someone of the likes of Berlusconi and his 'bunga bunga' parties.
