Well obviously you dont have close minded religious conservatives in North Carolina.
*snrk*

Well we didn't have as many of them THEN. Plus, I was in college that go-around so I wouldn't have heard it as much. But I ran with some folks in the "black helicopter" crowd, and even they weren't saying stuff like that. They were just stockpiling for the End Times, when Bubba's UN-backed army of Chinese troops and inner-city gangs were going to take over the country.

Interestingly, I just ran a calculation of what would happen if you gave 100% of Perot's votes in 1996 to Dole, and it would in fact have swung the Electoral College to a Dole win, 288-250. Despite the fact that Clinton still would have won the popular vote (mostly thanks to dominating performances in CA and NY) by a sliver of 118,422 (about 0.19%).

Oh what a scenario THAT would have been....

RE: Matthew

I need not remind you that this is an election year, but perhaps it bears pointing out that one candidate is an existential threat to your careers, and you will be working in a critically important swing state. Keep your jobs, please.

Also, I would expect Trump to give a vague and unverifiable amount of cash to an aid group.

The difference between democracy the concept vs Democrats the party. "Democratic" doesn't necessarily mean "pertaining to what members of the American Democratic Party believe", and, in the same sense, libertarianism is a much larger and diverse set of beliefs than the things that people around the Libertarian Party believe.

Dont you mean "democratic" doesn't mean the party?

That IS what Reelya said.

But he used a capital "D".

Because it was the start of a sentence. In the post before that I alternated lower and uppercase. As I also did in the very sentence before that one.

Grammar dictates that sentences start with capitals, even if they're not intended as proper nouns.

Why not change the sentence?

I think it would be much simpler if he wrote his small d democratic "Democratic" in the middle of a sentence like this.  ::)

Oh Jesus H Christ....really guys? All the crap there is this election, and this is what you're quibbling about?

And besides, your example of how he "should" have done it fails, because you capitalized it in the middle of the sentence, when your complaint is that he was talking about "democratic", not "Democratic".  :P

That's the point.  I rigorously followed the rules of grammar which said that a direct quote should preserve the capitalization even though that is clearly more confusing.

Oh come on, cool it, everybody.

I can't believe mainiac and RedKing are so polarized that they automatically take the opposite sides on every debate, like, seriously.

This should not be happening.

Wat? This is like Bell Pepper hot (it isn't) right now.

I too, find the grammar derail silly though.

Yes, Redking hates me so much that it influences his grammar.

I go from asking gun experts on YouTube about their opinion on the Oxford Comma, straight into grammar discussion here too? That's either impressive or creepy, I'm not sure which.

At this point I think it's safe to say that RedKing/maniac has become the spiritual opposite of MSH/MZ.

Direct quote of whom, specifically?

Quotation marks in this instance indicate a specific instance, offsetting the word from the rest of the sentence in order to codify that it is it's own concept.

Still, capitalizing it does make it confusing so shifting it around probably woulda helped.

Fakeedit: Single quotation marks are better to be used for indicating key terms. Looked it up. *shrug*
