The Department of Justice announced today that, thanks to the "Smart on Crime" initiative and related reforms, the number of persons incarcerated at the Federal level has dropped from a high of ~220,000 to ~195,000, that this reduction in the population is nearly equal to the ~30,000 persons currently incarcerated in privately owned facilities, and they accordingly plan to either not renew private prison contracts as they expire, or else substantially narrow the scope of the contract with the aim of eliminating the use of privately operated prisons at the federal level entirely.

RE Trump and Russia: One of the more surreal aspects of this rather surreal election cycle has been the switchover from Republicans yelling "RUSSIA IS EVIL! DON'T TRUST PUTIN!" and the Democrats saying "Silly Republicans, don't you know the Cold War's over?" to the former saying "What's the big deal about Russia?" and the later screaming "EVIL RUSSIA! BEWARE THEIR DASTARDLY SPIES!"

Bush stared into Putin's soul back in 2000, dont you remember?  The US was hopeful about relations with Russia.  But there has been a lot of shit since then.  Georgia, Ukraine, Syria.  It's not just a relic of the cold war that american foreign policy is skeptical of Russia, it's mostly about events during Putin's leadership.  Putin is also spending absurdly large amounts of money on propaganda that is geared towards fear, uncertainty and doubt.

And it is pretty likely that multiple Russian intelligence agencies were engaged in electronic espionage of democratic party systems.  And it's an open secret that Russia is supporting efforts to slander the democratic party nominee.  It's not paranoia if law enforcement officials and outside experts agree that someone is out to get you and they can provide you with a list of names of the people trying to fuck with you.

Oh, I'm endorsing neither Trump nor Putin. I think the former is the reductio-ad-absurdum of American politics and that the latter is a fascist dictator. I think the US should trust Russia as far as it can throw it. I was just remarking on the shift in popular opinion.

So, an anarchist group put up naked, pudgy statues (with micropenis) of Donald Trump in NYC, San Fran, Cleveland, Seattle and LA last night.

They've already been removed, at least in NYC. The NYC Park Department issued the following real statement, which wins all the everything:

The rest though...  I'm not laughing.  I'm no fan of Trump, but that's just distasteful.  Disgusting art can convey an important message, but I don't think this was anything but puerile.
