Sanders got delegates, and a good deal of them. That it is not enough to win the nom does not matter, the delegates have the right to present at the convention however they want. The irony is that if Clinton and her people for even a moment were not so destructively absorbed in appearance and media days, if at any point at all they recognized the legitimacy of the chunk that supported Sanders, then this wouldn't even be an issue.
What would that even look like? The party itself gave them, and sanders in particular, probably more support than was appropriate. Policy wise, they're asking for very little that isn't already being sought, and clinton's even made some kinda' suboptimal policy shifts in their favor anyway. Party rules and regs wise, they've gotten as much or more largess as anyone in the party does, for all that they've squandered it to a fair degree more than once. What more does it take?

What is infuriating is the presumptuous attitude of "shut up and praise Hillary" that has been plaguing all of this since the start.

Clinton showed this respect to Obama.
Clinton is no Obama.
Besides, Clinton held her powder because she was reloading for 2016. Sanders has no strategic reason to hold his powder. He'll likely be dead by 2024.

Part of joining a political party is to abide by its decision.  Sanders could have run as independent, but he would have had no chance (because first past the post is dogshit, nigh criminal).

If Sanders had squeaked out a win, would Clinton be pulling this?  No, she'd be throwing her support beyond the nominee (like she *did*).  Because in the end they're both liberals.  That's not just cynical "Anything but Trump!", it's the point of political parties and primaries.  It's an alliance, and an agreement.

I mean, I do think Clinton should be doing more to appease Sanders supporters, but *that's* being cynical.  If Sander's supporters aren't predominantly Democrats, he should have run as independent as usual.

(On a more hopeful note, I wonder if there's any possibility of getting instant runoff in the Democratic primary system sometime.  The general election is where we desperately need it, but it'd be a good demonstration of the concept)

Probably, like, proportional representation.

Clinton is no Obama.

So the rules apply... except when you dont like someone.

And I suppose Elijah Cummings is no Obama either?  Marcia Fudge?  Paul Booth?  Honestly, it's amazing the number of people who aren't Obama.

I, too, would like to completely restructure the american election system over the course of seven months.

Seriously. It'd be pretty nice. I think we'd have to do something to constitution to be able to in that time span, though. And another one to get that amendment through in time. So first we do an amendment to be able to do an amendment to be able to make the change in that time span, in... seven months. Then we restructure the american election system.

It'd also be pretty neat to have actually met God, since one manifesting and coming down to earth would be what it'd take to make it happen :V

It's a pipe dream, but one that fills me with hope and joy.

Parties get more seats depending on how many votes they get. Whichever party (or coalition) has the most seats becomes Government. Party leader is made Prime Minister. His cabinet is given executive power.

Because the Westminster system is good, dammit.

Of poportional representation? It's pretty obvious, they don't want to lose their stance as a major party if we went off the FPTP system.

Hey, some of 'em are trying something.

And what, smj? I'm pretty sure under a proportional system they'd still be one of the major parties, or if nothing else splinter into two or three of them.

Okay so you are in fact saying that it's the democrats fault that they didn't give the Bernie Sanders supporters something that isn't remotely in the domain of their power.  Being assholes to people is okay if they dont give you things that are literally impossible.

Glad we had this chat.

I would rather be able to vote for the leader of the country than have the people in the senate and house choose, thank you very much.

I'm not exactly sure how we'd do proportional representation for presidential candidates, but I would support surgically removing 43.1% of Hillary Clinton's body and grafting the equivalent amount of Bernie Sanders onto her.
