Vampire on embark
« on: July 04, 2016, 08:27:15 am »

Coming back to DF after a long break, I fired up a quick game and embarked...
I'm fairly sure that the purple highlight indicates that the dwarf is a vampire.
Any advice as for what I should do?
Right now, I'm thinking military service.

Purple smileys are usually medical staff/scholars/nobles, though I'm not sure what you mean by highlight - give us a picture?

If you're not sure, you can for instance lock them in the room until they get hungry or try to drown them. If they do not get hungry/drown, they are not a vampire.

AFAIK Starting dwarves are generated on spot, so they can't be vampires.

Also, that purple highlight indicates the dude is your expedition leader, not a vampire. Noble, to be generic.

Try appointing someone as, say, chief medical or broker and refreshing DT.

You can never be too sure. Submerge the dwarf in question underwater. If it drowns, it wasn't a vampire.

I love this community. Somebody asks "hay guise how do i tame shark", and then everybody is like "why don't we fling sharks at things with complex mechanical devices?".

If that drowns, it was a dragon. Or a titan, possibly.

Titan's are immune to magma.

If all else fails though, just cave something in on it.

I demand a butcher option for all dwarfs that have a confusing symbol/color code / job in dwarf therapist! (or displease me in any other way.)

And make it an auto butcher option in case of nobles! (no need for an off switch)

But then there would be no need to make traps to kill off our own dwarfs!

You could trap them in the butchery.

Burrow them on a weapon trap with some serrated blades and wait for them to fall asleep.
