Iris frowned, not having expected quite that reaction. She did her best to follow after the maid, not entirely sure where she was going though.

Shaelynn might have exploded on the spot if she hadn't been tired from earlier. "I see." She took a deep breath to steady herself before continuing. "Under what charges are you being imprisoned, father? I should like to commit myself to refuting the claims immediately."

[Haspen]

@Iris:

The maid locked herself in her bedroom and kept on sobbing.

@Shaelynn:

"I'm being put on house arrest as I'm implicated in being part of dissident movement. They want to keep me at the estate until the Senate finds out whether I am guilty or not."

Iris frowned and turned back, hoping to find the nervous servant. It had been back this way, right?

[Haspen]

The servant mysteriously disappeared!

Probably hid in his bedroom as well.

"Hmph. I see." Shaelynn looked at Suzanne. "And... This is the person who brought the message?"

Iris sighed and headed for the hall, arriving in time to hear the tail end of Shae's question.

"If the rest of the four would care to identify themselves, that would be appreciated."

Siegfried moves to stand near the other two. "I am Siegfried of House Jubastacheit, also one of the Reich soldiers you seek."

Friderick watched the events unfold quietly, too absorbed in taking it all in to say anything.

"If the rest of the four would care to identify themselves, that would be appreciated."

"Friderick von Heinrich, soldier under the command of the late Captain Astleich."

Suzanne turned her head to acknowledge Shaelynn briefly, then let out a short breath and began speaking to the soldiers in front of her.

"Very well. These will inform you where your investigation is to continue." She proceeded to pass out the appropriate papers. They could take turns reading them, she supposed. "However... I had also been given a contingency plan by the Senate in case of Captain Astleich's disabling injury or death."

And her eyes focused on each of the soldiers in turn.

"The chain of command must be preserved. I am either to take control of this group, or to have you elect a new acting Captain from your ranks."

Cecil watches with rapt attention, writing down everything that's happening.

Iris frowned. Speaking up, she asked,

"Who even are you? What's your rank? If someone is to take charge of the situation, it makes significantly more sense for it to be someone who has actually dealt with some of the problem rather than the Senate's messenger girl."

[Chevaleresse]

"I would agree with Iris's sentiment, though perhaps I might word it a bit more diplomatically. As for leadership, it would be difficult to say which among us would make an effective captain."

[Criptfeind]

Gregory nods his assent.

"I suppose we should have seen this coming. It makes sense after all... and I agree with Siegfried and Iris. Could you give us a moment to confer?" Gregory asked as he turned to the other three, a quizzical expression on his face. "Who do you three think?... Although it might be bold, I'd put myself forward as the possible choice. Otherwise, Siegfried probably comes from a more natural social station for the choice."

[Gaterhyme]

"Lieutenant Suzanne Vogt, junior investigator. My field of expertise is in mechanical tasks, personal protection, and, occasionally, message delivery. Judging by your uniform, I assume you are from a separate unit."

She shrugged, not caring to pry into that for now.

"As for why, this is by the Senate's orders. I have been given the ability to take command by force, unless I choose to give it away. I believe this is more meritocratic. If you doubt my capabilities, convince these soldiers to vote for someone else."

"I am under no illusions. You have first-hand experience with these incidents where I do not, so regardless of the result, I still require information and opinions from the rest of you."
