Jann frowned.
: "Then I'll ask again."
He slammed his good hand on his table, his voice rising in equal part.
: "How, exactly, can that particular magic be used for 'the greatest good'?! Or is that just the little curious monkey in your mind blissfully ignoring the dragon's maw in front of you?"

Cecil is suddenly next to Gregory and Jann.

"Hey, hey, there's no need to be fighting here! It seems there's only a small misunderstanding here. We're all comrades reaching for the same goal, aren't we?"

Gregories face reddens at the insult, surprise being replaced by anger. Bristling, he raised his voice as he responded, completely ignoring Cecil.
"Who knows what applications we could ultimately use such knowledge for! Maybe if the methods could be improved it could be used alongside healing magic and bring back the dead! Maybe skeletons could be used as some type of work force! Heck! I think we just saw a not bad example of how it could be used for good! From what I heard that skeleton was pretty dangerous with an axe, and I suppose you're proof enough that the world needs some muscle bound axe toting thugs every once in a while! Just ignoring the possibilities and banning it insures that only criminals will have access too it! That should be the opposite of what you want!"

"Maybe body-controlling magic can help bring control back to those afflicted with diseases of the nerves. As Gregory said, maybe with their permission beforehand, the dead can perform the most dangerous and grueling tasks, so people don't lose their lives doing so.

Maybe the dead can come back."

She met Jann's gaze.

"I'm an alchemist. Grunroot is deadly poisonous, unless mixed with fernsleaf, when it becomes a salve for burns. We can't know unless it's tried, and banning it won't do that. It'll only ever be the evils you said."

Many of my best friends are skeletons... But seriously, I'll just let them argue for now. Nothing wrong with a frank exchange of views, if no-one gets hurt. I should be finishing my meal.

Arnold slides his bowl what he hopes is a safe distance away and then resumes eating, keeping an eye on the verbal combatants.

Jann's fist clenched as he glared at Gregory.
: "Already told you, kid. We never banned restoration magic to counter mind-addling and necromancy. When sects decided to pick them up with dreams of establishing little tyrant states with that twisted power, they were stomped out with no fanfare. And as far as 'thugs' are concerned, if you saw what I saw, you'd beg to face me instead of the bloodthirsty monstrosities I've seen magic create." Unknowingly, he instinctively reached to rub the large claw-shaped scar across his cheek, "Would you rather see villages reduced to puddles of blood by some freakish abomination? Or stake out a chance that a 'thug' like me would show some mercy?"
Listening to Flora, his arms loosened and he let out a half-grunt, half-sigh.
: "Hrmph. This is a pointless exchange. It's obvious we're just going to be talking past each other."
: "Just know that even talking about that magic is a good way to get lynched. Word to the wise next time you're messing with it with a Troian in earshot."

Alissa mirrors Arnold's stance on the argument. While she's of a similar opinion to Jann, she *does* kind of see the point being made by Flora and Gregory.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Gregory leans back in his chair with a harrumph, picking up his backpack and clutching it to his chest.

"Yeah... I guess this conversation won't go anywhere." he grumbles "I guess it's a good point that so long as people hold such ideas about magic to not agitate them... and I'm not a kid." he finishes before grumpy pulling out his book and going back to reading... For a few moments before sighing and turning to Arnold.

"Yeah. I don't know, maybe we can go shopping. But I'd rather we try to requisition some equipment or money first before we stoop to begging." he says shortly before returning to his book.

Cecil sighs, shaking his head at the arguing but not attempting to raise the matter further.

Arnold smiles at Gregory.
"That's probably a better idea, yes. The merchants might not be swayed by the thought of poor Reich troopers in need. Let's say we wait until everyone has finished up here, then go see what we can find around this place, then continue into town if we need to and can get permission. How does that sound?"

Nice biceps but close-minded enough bit of a deal-breaker. Shame.
It was bad to hear the locals were superstitious enough about those kinds of magic... ah, if only the skeleton had been sampled!

She shook her head slightly and responded to Arnold.
"That seems best."

Arnold is excited by Flora's statement of support.
"So you'll be joining us? Great!"

As he finishes his soup, Arnold recalls something that Friderick said a little while ago.
"Dad told me that this sort of things are normal, that he had that feeling too when he first served, but got better. Sure hope he's right."
"Your dad was a soldier too, Friderick? Was he stationed here?"

Siegfried simply finished his meal quietly. You would think people would be trying to stick together at a time like this. . .

"Downstairs. It is lunch time so they're probably eating in the dining hall."

"I see. Thank you father." Shaelynn left the room she'd been resting in for the last few days and made her way to the dining hall. She entered to a dark mood that seemed centered around Gregory, Flora, and Jann. "...Hello, everyone."
