"'To the point' is more lances, isn't it? Eh?" She grinned, acknowledging the terribleness of the pun without shame. "I mean, I'd like to be better at healing, but my healing tends to feel... unpleasant. Not sure why. It's why I've researched how to create medicine, because that doesn't even need magic, really, and isn't that amazing? Cursing people, though, it's always been pretty easy. It's just another thing that can be studied about magic. Do you have any particular aptitudes with your staves?"

: "I'm afraid I can't provide you with much, either. All I've been around for is repelling the attack on Abado in addition to our last excursion."
Jann took one last spoonful of soup before leaving his utensils in the bowl with a quiet 'clack'.
: "That said, I did meet those two a day before the attack on Abado." He gestured towards Cecil and Alissa with his good hand, "They're decent people, if easily excited over trivial things, on the armored one's part. If nothing else, they helped me protect both Abado and repel that walking pile of magic and bones that showed up in the catacombs. Can't say much on the rest of you Reich folks." The hunter paused for a moment to glare at Gregory, before adding with a quieter tone, "Well, except perhaps the Captain, not that I'll have much opportunity to say more. He was helpful despite his loyalty to his mission, if nothing else."

Cecil seems to be guzzling his soup while working on something in a leather-bound book small enough to fit in his pocket.

Siegfried sighs, speaking to no one in particular. "I suppose it was too much to hope for this to be simple. At the very least, it seems I've been given some rather more important things to worry about..."

"Both, from lack of better options, dear. Plus I hope that the new investigator will arrive in just few more days from now."

Shaelynn sighed again. "I see. Where are the others now? I'd like to see them."

Gregory grins widely back into Janns glare.

"Too bad you all broke that skeleton apart so quickly, and then with the explosion and all... I would have loved to get a chance to study some authentic overseaslander necromancy! That type of magic isn't very well appreciated is it? I wonder if that'd give rise to some important distinctions in style. But, ah well. I'm sure there's more of such things somewhere in this land... Maybe once we get all this investigation finished Shaes father might be willing to put together some type of expedition.... I'm sure learning more about the local ancient cultures couldn't hurt ether!"

"Wait wait wait! There really were skeletons walking around! Augh! And you didn't get any samples?!"

"I think the explosion ruined any chance of that. Though that does remind me. Here, you wanted to see this?"

Iris walked over to Flora and handed her a few scraps of cloth.

"This is all I could save of that magical cloth you wanted to see some of. Sorry I couldn't save more. Most of it disintegrated when I used it."

Jann grit his teeth just as Gregory mentioned 'Overseaslander', and even more when he mentioned 'Necromancy'. Whatever stoicism he had was starting to crack.
: "What you're talking about isn't something of ours. It and anything like it was banned and declared forbidden a long, long time ago, along with mind-affecting magic. That was probably the work of some offshoot fanatic, or something left over from before the Nomad Empress' rule. And if I were you, I wouldn't go around digging into or even talking about those branches of magic around here, got it?!"

"During the mission, I've only been on straightforward healing duty so far. However, I was intrigued by the performance-enhancing staves they demonstrated to us in training. With a few of those, I could help out wherever it's most needed during a battle, before people get injured."

Hmm, she avoided my question about the device. Maybe it was stupid, or maybe she doesn't know and doesn't want to admit it. It's just speculation, anyway. Perhaps those two sunbeams over there will figure something out for us. We'll see.

Arnold turns to Gregory again.
"How about that shopping trip, Gregory? We could bring Flora, Friderick and Siegfried with us and ask the merchants to kindly donate some gear to poor Reich troopers in need."

Arnold nods.
"I think I know what you mean. Several times since we came here I've felt removed from what's happening, as if it was something I read in a book."
"Dad told me that this sort of things are normal, that he had that feeling too when he first served, but got better. Sure hope he's right."

"Well I mean..." Gregory hesitated, gesturing vaguely with one hand. "Who ever is behind it I mean. There's. Gota be more to the whole thing right? Whoever's caused all this, if it wasn't that mage woman, is sorta the ultimate cause of all the bad things right?" Gregory finished quizzically.
"That can't have been the leader of this conspiracy. It couldn't have been. Whoever is behind all of this - they will pay. I'll make them myself."

"Oh, thank you, Iris."
She carefully placed them in a pouch, then placed it within her pack.

"Surely, even if it's old, it's still, well overseasland magic?" She frowned. "But why was it banned? Sure, I could see how it could be misused, but that's true for all magic, or a sword, or something. Magic doesn't control the wielder, the wielder controls the magic."

Gregory leans back away from Janns outburst, face reddening and grin wobbling quickly into insincerity on his face as he takes a bite of bread and rides out the lambasting. Not replying, but instead nodding a little when Flora talks.

Jann's mouth slanted as he glanced back at Flora.
: "'Wielder controls the magic'? Yeah, that's technically true. You try saying that when someone else's 'magic' forces you to slit your fiance's throat. Or worse; if, say, a sibling was brought back from the dead with no other thoughts than killing you. Those things have happened and will happen again if anyone lets it. That's why it was declared forbidden."
: "Besides, it's not like we were foolhardy enough to ban research in restoration magic to counter it when the inevitable fanatic decides to ignore the ban. Try thinking of anything else those kinds of magic could be useful for. You won't find much."

Gregory hesitates, frowning for a moment before before somewhat quietly speaking up.

"B-but... that's just intent... I und-derstand there's... Emotions involved when it's specifically not the expected person... But anyone can kill someone close to you. Restoration magic could save the life of someone intent on harming you. A-anything can be used for good or evil. But if we understand things we can h-hopefully use them for the greatest good in peoples lives, and have a better chance of stopping them when they go wrong."
