Altha gave a sigh. This better not mean that she'd have to socialize to find out. If that Iris girl used one of these items, then she might have to examine her at some point.

"It figures. I'd... appreciate if you informed me if you're able to learn anything else on the subject." she said begrudgingly. Altha's mind immediately turned back to the scholarly implications of what was known about the item.

"If it was destroyed after a single use like you said, and assuming that it was the same type of enchantment. That would imply there's some form of backlash from the transfer process on its original bounded item. I did not have time yet to examine closely the internal connections between the shield and its spell, but- perhaps it draws something out of the host in order to compensate for any loss in potency? If so then..." Altha closed her eyes in thought.   

"I suppose this means further study of the spells will be needed before performing any experiments on live subjects. A pity."

Cecil, if anything, isn't discouraged. He actually seems even happier.

"The Annoying Urchin? An excellent name! Just like my other weapons, 'The Mouthy Child' and the 'Blighted Malingerer'! How much for this sword, friend?"

The blacksmith didn't comment and simply answered:

"Two hundred fifty."

Alissa, who'd been following Cecil after failing to find anything of note to her, puts a hand to her mouth to at least try to stifle her laughter.

Cecil puts down the gold.

"Pleasure doing business with you, friend! Have a good day! Salutations!"
As he takes the sword and walks outside, he looks around to see Alissa, waving.

"Hello! Did you find anything good?"

Flora gave a small laugh at the expression that clouded Altha's face.
"Worry not, my dear Altha. I'll ask for you, if you want. It's my sister, after all."
She let her smile fade a little as she thought more about the magic.
"I do wonder if it's intentional that the item is destroyed. You mentioned the shield could have almost fallen apart, yes? Well, that way, one could have the advantage of carrying around multiples of the charms without being burdened by, for example, five shields."

Alissa glances at the shopkeeper.

"He's always like this."

Then, to Cecil: "Unfortunately not. Doesn't really matter, leaves more money for supplies like the sword you just got... you don't seem to have any more places to put it, I don't think, give me one of those..."

Take a Vulnerary from Cecil.

Cecil agrees to handing the vulnerary over!

"You have a-" Altha stopped mid sentence. She vaguely recalled Flora mentioning something about a sibling before. Much of what was said to her tended to become a blur in Altha's mind outside of work and academia.

"Nevermind." she said, shaking her head. "But since the enchantment seems to give its effects to the item that it's bounded to that wouldn't make sense. Most likely it's related to whatever made the spell transferable in the first place. All things must have a cost after all, and as far as I have been able to see, the enchantment lacks an internal energy reserve like that of tomes or staves."

[Criptfeind]

"I may as well make my purchases now. Are you still carrying the gold in the coffer?"

"Yup." Gregory says, rummaging around for a few minutes before producing the coffer again. "Take whatever you need."

[GiglameshDespair]

Flora made a snrk sound.
"Haha! Yes, I have a sister. She is amazing, and my dear little sister, but that's beyond the point. You really do have your head in the books a little too much."
She grinned, taking any real rebuke out her words.
"Is there anything you wanted in town, by the way? There's an axe and a staff somewhere out there I want to get, and we can try to find my sister. Perhaps you'll even remember her a day after you've met her."
She poked her tongue out teasingly.

Altha's expression turned to a slightly more annoyed glare than usual in response to Flora's teasing. She didn't push the topic though, since this was common in their interactions.

"...I suppose I could use a stronger combat tome. If more of these annoying disturbances are going to occur, then it would do well for me to be well equipped."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Heh. Don't think of them as disturbances, so much as... oppotunities for samples. Certainly, you can get experience with data gathered under combat conditions, right? If you're finished with your drink, let's go."

She went and bought the axe mentioned in a previous post, before looking for a staff stop, and her sister along the way.

Iris and Shae had exited the shop right around when Flora and Altha were walking by. Waving to her, Iris fell into step by her sister and grinned.

"Good to see you two. I found a new weapon! Have you two found anything useful?"

[Furtuka]

"I suppose that's one way to put it." Altha bristled a little at Flora's demand, since she had never stated that she would go with her. On the other hand however, if they were to encounter anything interesting while out there...

Altha slowly nodded and stood up.

"I might as well go with you to ascertain the quality of the purchases. Wasting money on some conman practitioner would be unfortunate. Just give me a moment to prepare myself." Wearing the blue of an Reich Uniform would make it less likely that someone would bother her, or worse, try to engage in chitchat.

Altha raised an eyebrow at Iris's intrusion, recognizing her and the Peritz girl. So this was Flora's sister?
