I've not known you for long, but you clearly know how to take care of yourself and have strong magic. Plus, everyone was anxious hoping that'd you be ok. It's not like his running away had anything to do with you. I mean... I don't know much about noble romance... Or any romance for that matter, but I do know that he wasn't lying when be said it was about not being a pawn. I truly don't believe his thoughtlessness was intended as a sight towards you. I just think he was too stupid to think that his actions would have consequences"

"P-perhaps not but-" Shaelynn took in  a shaky breath. "He wasn't the first of my arranged marriages to fall through. There were a few others beforehand. My father assured me at the time that the reasoning offered by the houses in question were quite normal, and that arranging a marriage takes time but-" Shaelynn took another breath. "Ever since we received word that Siegfried had abandoned his house after he was told he was set to marry me, I've been wondering if it hasn't all been this way. Men refusing to marry me because... I don't even know why! With my family's name, I should be a very desirable catch but-" Shaelynn started crying again. "I alw-ways overhear the staff s-saying how r-rude I am, and s-scary, and that I'm nothing but a b-burden to the family, and I'm not good at a-anything but magic and that's only good for h-hurting people and I really try to be fitting to my s-station and I'll never be as good as my brother and now the country's falling apart and I can't do anything to help my father!" Shaelynn tucked her knees in, and started to sob, having totally lost coherence.

Siegfried nods, then stands up, heading toward wherever some writing supplies might be found and doing his best to avoid the direction Shaelynn had gone.

Meanwhile, at the entrance.

"Err, sure, miss. Come in." A servant then brought a young woman into the dining hall.

"Take a seat, I will have Governor informed and he will explain the situation to you." With that, the young woman in traveling garb was left in the room while the servant ran upstairs, clearly terrified.

Siegfried politely thanks the custodian for the assistance and begins a return to the dining hall.

With a slight nod to the other people currently in the hall, Suzanne does as she was told and takes an empty seat.

Cecil waits in the hall, continuing to scribble.

Gregory blinked in surprise when a woman who he had not met before was shown in by a terrified maid. Clearly she was ether very important or dangerous or both. Standing up from his seat he lowered his head to return her nod.

"Greetings Miss. I don't think we've had the pleasure of being introduced before. My name is Gregory Zecklin, soldier of the Reich, may I ask who you are?"

Suzanne glanced Gregory over, as if sizing him up. Her eyes trailed briefly over to the scuff marks on the floor and the overturned bowl dripping soup off the end of the table before returning to him once more.

"Suzanne."

Beat.

"I'm here to deliver a message." To his superior, she suspected.

[Mopsy]

What now? Is that the new investigator? Another spook, apparently. Well, it's information we need more than anything, so I should be happy about that.
Arnold sits down and nibbles some bread, waiting to see what will happen next.

"And I've been told I'm cold and blunt and a stick in the mud. Though that last one is really just Flora. The point is, there will always be rude people. Trust your father. There could be thousands of reasons people might reject a betrothal. For one thing, surely not everyone from the Reich would be interested in coming here to Troi. And even those who are could have other reasons for turning you down. Your maids talking behind your back simply means they feel a need to make you seem less than you are. They are intimidated by you and rightly so. At least they respect or fear you enough to not do it to your face. Do not let their words poison you. If you enjoy your life as you are, who are they to judge you?"

The heavy boots coming down the stairs announced the presence of the Governor before he even entered the dining hall.

He looked at the scrawny girl in travelling robes.

"I've been told that you have been sent by the Senate. Have... you gotten the sad news, perhaps?"

[Gaterhyme]

Suzanne stood and brushed herself off.

"Hello, Governor General. I am afraid you have me at a loss, there, but... I do have orders from the Senate for you."

She closed the distance between them, producing a satchel of papers, and held the correct one out for his perusal.

"...I don't. Not really. The entire reason I'm on the investigative team is that I was trying to find something to do with myself. My father never needs my help with documents these days, I'm unsuited to diplomatic conferences, and I'd spent most of my time either lazing about or practicing my magic." Shaelynn sighed, and wiped her face with the back of her hands. "It's not like they treat the whole family the way I'm treated. The staff love my brother and mother, and at least respect my father. I'm the proverbial black sheep."
