Iris had been about to answer Arnold when things exploded. As Shae left and the men commiserated with Sieg, she rolled her eyes and muttered something about men under her breath as she followed out after the noble woman. Finding her crying, Iris crouched down a few feet away and quietly asked,

"Are you going to be ok? ... That was a stupid question. Clearly not. I guess rather, are you going to be ok if you need to continue to work with him? Clearly he wronged you in what appears to be a rather thoughtless manner from what was said, but you also are still part of the same team. Is there something I could do to help to make things easier for you?"

Shaelynn shook her head, tears still flowing. "No. I-I'll be fine. I have experience in dealing with situations I'd rather n-not. My own f-failings will not have bearing on this investig-gation." Shaelynn's crying was beginning to become interspersed with hiccuping. "I d-don't believe there is any a-answer for my own wr-wretched state either."

"What would you suggest?"

Cecil poses magnificently, pointing to the sky and grinning audaciously. If he had a cape, one might feel it would be billowing dramatically right now.

"A grand play, for her and all to see, to declare your apology to the world and the heavens above! .........or a letter."

"Er, I may not be the brightest of men, but a play may be... impractical."

Cecil visibly deflates.

"......just the letter then."

"I mean, I don't doubt that a play might very well impress her with the effort at least, but we are trying to stop civil war in the meantime."

"So you would help me write a letter, though?"

"Of course! Anyway I could help, I will."

"Well, I think there are writing supplies available... though I might try to avoid encountering the Governor-General while I fetch them. We may as well start immediately."

Arnold is left to himself as Iris leaves.

Ugh, that escalated further than I thought it would. I'm feeling unhelpful over here, but I've never been good at things like this. Arranged marriages, honour and all that. Give me a good mountain to climb or a wound to heal any day of the week. Now I really understand what Gunther meant when he told us that the animals handle these matters far better than we do. However, I don't think that's what they want to hear right now. Or ever, heh.
