"And what of your duty to me, your betrothed? Or your family? You abandoned them both!" Shaelynn pointed at Siegfried accusingly- and with the gesture came a surge of light, which crashed into Siegfried's shoulder. Shaelynn did not appear to pay this any mind. "And how convenient that your 'duty' should only come to the fore when our families had declared us promised! Have you the remotest idea how that looked? My father is the Governor General of the Overseasland. My family is one of the most powerful in the Reich. And you ran away at the thought of being my husband?" Shaelynn began to step closer to Siegfried, the light in her hand growing ever brighter.

"I-I was simply doing my duty as a knight! Please, it wasn't meant to be a slight against you personally!"

"Don't worry, friend! I shall write you a fitting epitaph, so future generations shall learn from your unfortunate fate!"

[Chevaleresse]

Siegfried stood and began to take a step or two backward. "I didn't want to be a tool! I wanted to help people, not be a mechanism for my father's political gains. P-Please, incinerating me is wholly unnecessary!"

Shaelynn loosed more magic around Siegfried's feet to keep him from running away. "You are the son of a noble house! Like me, you are obligated to take the hand of the partner that your parent's select for you! Are you so foolish as to believe that you are the only noble to ever have personal goals? Do you have anything to say that could excuse your behavior? Anything at all?" Shaelynn was now inches from Siegfried, and projected an aura of menace despite only coming up to his chest.

Indeed, the man shied away from Shaelynn and her bolts of divine retribution. "Simple fear for my life would suffice, I would think! My chances are better on a battlefield than here!"

Shaelynn reached high and punched Siegfried under the chin. "Get out of my sight. You are never to speak to me again with the exception of emergency circumstances. You wretched failure." Shaelynn turned on her heel and stalked out of the dining hall, stomping around the building until she found a corner to cry in.

[Chevaleresse]

Siegfried reeled back a step or two, in large part due to not really expecting a blow. He watched Shaelynn leave before speaking again. "I suppose I deserved that..."

Cecil checks over Siegfried, looking his face over to make sure he's alright.

"Are you alright, friend?"

[Chevaleresse]

"I'm not wounded, no."

[IamanElfCollaborator]

Cecil sighs relievedly.

"Good to hear. I'm sorry about that joke. I was hoping to....lighten up the situation."

[Chevaleresse]

"It's a bit late for that. I knew this would happen eventually, but I cannot help but feel I frightfully mishandled it."

[IamanElfCollaborator]

"Don't worry. I.....know all about running away from duty. You're not alone."

[Chevaleresse]

Siegfried winces at Cecil's words. "I shouldn't have run away at all. Shaelynn is correct, much as I resent that fact."

"And sometimes the people who assign you your duty have no right to force it on you."

[Chevaleresse]

"I suppose I would agree. Still, though, it was rather low of me to shirk in such a fashion. Especially since this will likely end poorly for both of us; it was an impetuous decision and one not really fitting of a knight at all..."
