"Whew. Dicey there at first. How are you holding up there Siegfried? That looked like a pretty nasty blow." Gregory asked as he beamed a smile at his victorious companions.

Arnold remained on deck for a couple of hours, doing muscle and tendon exercises, then retired to his cot.
What is this mission going to be like? What is Overseasland like? Dad's stories don't really help me imagine the place. I hope it's not actually "nothin' but shacks, mud and fevers"...

Friderick wiped some sweat off his brow with his left hand.
"That was quite something."
With the drill done, he watched the sea for an hour or two before retiring to his cabin for the day.

~~Chapter 1: The Overseasland~~

31st Vierzember, evening:
Despite my initial hopes, our meeting with the Governor-General did not come to fruition today. We have waited till evening for an audience but, alas, we weren't welcomed into the office, and therefore I have decided to seek permission to spend a night at the local garrison; said permission was granted by the garrison's commander.
How surprised I was, when, just before the sleep, a young man came, delivering a message to me. We have been scheduled an audience, but not with Governor-General, but rather his Chief Advisor of Overseasland's Affairs, Sevyor Torriani. Why him, and not the Governor-General, who, after all, was the one to send for Reich investigator, I have no idea.
I hope that, in the morning, this, and many other questions, will be answered.

Captain Astleich sat on the chair, waiting, arms crossed and eyes closed. They have been sitting here for the better part of the morning. Hours managed to pass in silence and boredom, before a young lady, the aide of the Chief Advisor, opened the door from inside and looked out.

"Chief Advisor will see you gentlemen now." Captain Astleich, without a sign of annoyance on his face, motioned his soldiers to come along with him.

Once inside, Captain Astleich placed his hands on the chair in front of the desk, instead of sitting on it. Behind the desk, there was a mountain of a man, sitting, papers strewn on his side of the desk. The man was at least six feet half tall, and had very broad shoulders. He looked like a warrior from the mountains, not a man who spent his life behind the desk.

"I have to point out that Chief Advisor kept us waiting for quite a bit."

"Ah, I hope you won't be angry about that. I had lots of paperwork to do first."

"No." Sevyor Torriani leaned to the side to take a better look at the soldiers behind Astleich.

"These are your... trusted subordinates?"

"Trusted, I believe so, as this is my first assignment in the field, with these recruits under my command, and this is our first visit to Overseasland."

"Hrhmmm... my I ask your subordinates' names?" Captain Astleich nodded and turned to the others.

"Introduce yourselves to Chief Advisor."

"Yes sir." Gregory said slightly nervously as he stepped forward and snapped to attention. "Soldier Gregory Zecklin. Mage, trained in dark magic. Pleased to make your acquaintance." he said as he allowed hopeful grin.

"Friderick von Heinrich, soldier of the Reich, sir."
Friderick spoke with a hint of nervousness in his voice, then stepped forward as well.

Chief Advisor crossed his arms and hummed to himself for a moment.

"Well..."

"Now that you have their names, may I ask why Governor-General sent for an investigator, and why I wasn't allowed to see him yet?"

"Simple questions with simple answers! He didn't send for you - I did."

"Why?"

"Becuase I do not trust Governor-General, and his friends from Overseasland nobility, especially the previous ruling family." Captain Astleich pondered these words, and then sat down at the chair.

"You have my ear and my loyalty."

"...First of all, we need to learn the name of someone who may be the link between Lady Sheila, granddaughter of late Troy IX and current heir to the Masallan family, and the Governor-General's circle of friends."

"So you don't know much yourself."

"No, no I don't. But one of my informants is working on procuring such info. I was going to send one of my bodyguards to meet her at arranged location, but, to be quite honest, with you around..."

"Do you want us to go and meet with 'her'?"

"Yes. This way you can get used to the city."

"I believe it's more that you wish to test our loyalty and capabilities by seeing how we handle this task." Chief Advisor burst in laughter for a brief moment.

"You are very observant. That's good. Now, please come here so I may tell you the details..." Captain Astleich stood up and leaned toward Sevyor Torriani, and the latter whispered some words to the former.

"I see. We will head there immediately."

"She will be there when the noon bell on the Citadel rings, so that's less than an hour" Captain Astleich nodded and then turned toward his men.

"We're heading out."

"Yes sir." Gregory said as he fell in behind Captain Astleich. As they left his face was troubled, clearly he didn't expect that such a complication would come their way right away.

"Yes, sir."
Friderick turned to look at the Chief Advisor.
"Excuse me, but may I ask why you do not trust the Governor-General?"

Siegfried frowns, but says nothing as he follows his captain.

"Lead and I shall follow, sir."
In contrast to his brothers-in-arms, Arnold doesn't seem disturbed by the conversation between the Captain and the Chief Advisor.

If the worst thing we have to deal with here is political intrigue and secret messages, I'm not going to complain.

When Friderick asks his question, Arnold stops and glances at the Captain, wondering whether he'll wait for an answer or tell them to get a move on.

"I'm sure Chief Advisor has his reasons, and will explain himself more sufficiently next time." Captain Astleich led the soldiers out side, and, once the door to the office was closed, he was walking deep in thoughts.

Then, once they were all outside, he turned around and looked at Friderick and others.

"Your thoughts on Chief Advisor?"
