Gregory was pretty surprised, he had either expect the old woman to be there, and flee when she saw them, or for no one to be there. This man was quite a bit outside of his expectations. Smoothing over his confusion as quickly as he could he sauntered up to the man in the guardian, offering him a wide grin.

"Good day sir! Do you mind if I take a moment of your time? I'm looking to make contact with a woman who lives here, and was wondering if you might know where I could find her?"

Gregory blinks a few times. Of course that makes perfect sense. But, to check first.

Gregory describes the old woman, as much as he can remember, to to the man. Asking for confirmation that's his wife.

Gregory seems surprised at his response, and shows it plainly on his face.

"How strange. We just talked to her only a short while ago. Only a few hours ago really, right here in this garden! Gregory says, rubbing his chin in thought.

"So she posed as the home owner while these people were out. I don't think finding her is going to be likely. I feel better for checking though."

: "At least a four hour diversion to confirm that we were, in fact, outplayed by our enemy." Jann shook his head, "I can't say I agree with the sentiment of feeling better."

Gregory turns around to consider the rest of the group, nodding to Shaelynn.

"Well, either that or he's in on it. In absence of a way to tell which is which, and lacking both resources, time and will for further investigation into this specific question; I think we've hit a dead end here and should move on. And personally, I'm still glad to not be on the path our enemies set us on, even if it did take us a bit of extra time."

: "Believe what you want, but if our foes notice a tendency to tiptoe around every little obstacle they place in our way, it will be exploited later. If this keeps up, they could have us running in circles for days while they slowly whittle us down."
The hunter paused with a sigh.
: "Point is, we can't afford to let them predict our behavior any more than we can predict theirs."

Gregory nods, rolling his eyes upwards.

"Aye, I'll keep in mind in the future that we should do what our enemies tell us to avoid being manipulated by them. Lets go then."

Unless there's any objections, it's on to Wyrmpeak

Shaelynn folded her arms across her chest. "In any case, we don't have to dwell on what may have happened if we hadn't returned. We should press on."

Jann glared at Gregory, though certainly turning himself around, clearly ready to leave at Shaelynn's suggestion.
: "Don't put words in my mouth. By that line of thought, we'd have died in that ambush."

~~Chapter 6: The Anvil and the Hammer~~

The group continued forward, taking another two days of traveling across the provincial lands of Overseasland. They weren't harassed nor they were observed, but who know, maybe it was the birds that observed them?

Anyways, there was another obstacle on their path...

"Th' way is flooded, m'lord." Said one of the travellers on a horse that was moving away from the Gavaia Flatlands. The direct way to Wyrmpeak was blocked; not by some elaborate ambush, nor by some magic spell - the river, enlarged by recent rains, flooded the area.

They had now to decide: take the long way northwards through sparsely populated Harem Hills, or go through the flooded Gavaia Flatlands!

Jann paused in contemplation for a moment, faced north.
: "Probably best to head through the hills, if you ask me. Higher odds of an ambush, but if we're caught in the flood plain it'll be a much worse fight."
He continued to stare at the northern horizon, as if trying to gauge something about the landscape.
