Second MLP thread is locked a day after Bohandas links a wiki page describing a meme that turned out to contain a nude image in thumbnail form combined with behavior of the thread shortly afterwards that skirted too closely to that of the kind that got the first thread banned.

The first thread appears to likely have been wiped off the face of the board.

It was. I don't remember when (probably shortly before bohanda's), but it was beacuse people were posting rape-fics. It was rumoured Necro was banned because of it, but it was for unrelated reasons.

To my knowledge the rape fics were the third thread, and it wasn't because of posting them but because of people going too far into a discussion of how to tag such fics in order to avoid them. The first and last post of the second thread implies that the first thread was destroyed due to picspam that may have veered into the posting of something innapropriate.

Back from class, will sort through the additions.  As a general note, if you see an entry that seems to be lacking in detail or is screwed up in some way, post some additional details or corrected details.  (For some reason, I think I should have reserved some posts after the OP...  Ah well, if worse comes to worse, I'll have links at the top of the OP to points later in the thread.)

Should we put LSP's banning on the timeline? He did have quite a reputation, but I'm not sure if he was notable enough.

While he was notable, the only ban I have on there is GreatWyrmGold's and that is only due to it having taken nearly two years after the ban for him to be unseated from having the highest post count.  Granted, I seem to recall LSP being banned did cause some controversy, with the happy thread having been locked for a time...let's put it to a vote.  Do people want to add LSP's banning to the timeline, or not?

Looking at the feudalism thread Furt posted, can't see any of the maps. Can anybody else see them, or is it just on my end? If anybody else can see them, can they rehost the last map to Imgur or something, please?

There seems to be one saved image in the third spoiler here, though the title of the spoiler its stored in makes it vague as to whether this is the original or an edited version of it. Might be missing some things based on the discussion at the start of the thread and some conspicuous swathes of empty space.

Aye. There was a lengthy discussion about the circumstances of the ban (nobody was quite sure what "racist URL" meant); after a while, Gunner-Chan left for a while and locked the happy thread until they were pressured into unlocking it (in no small part due to the quick arrival of replacement happy threads.)

I'd say it was noteworthy.

First thread was bog-standard imagespam. Second thread was the stupidity that erupted after the inadvertent NSFW ED link. Third thread was over an extended debate over a shorthand system for tagging stories which spent entirely too much time dwelling on NSFW subjects and how to best warn readers about them in a compact and understandable way. AFAIK the only story that was associated with B12 directly was that one gory Halloween shockfic, and even that wasn't linked in thread.

#bay12lb IRC Channel established. Has a rocky start due to conflict with the older bay12 IRC which had split off from the main community years ago.

Bayomon Bay12 ROMhack project is started. Makes a surprising amount of progress with with working test versions created.

So far have been having difficulty locating dates for the various homestuck avatar fads, the creation of the masterwork subforum, and the shortlived Putnam and Deon modding subforums which were made seperately from the other modding subforums

BTW you might want to add to the shock spammer entry that it spawned a mass debate over whether or not more moderation should be added to the forum administration.

First three folded into current Descan entry.  Rest added in own entries, and shock spammer details added, with mention of part of debate being destroyed due to interforum warfare discussion in relevant thread.

Edit: Creation of modding subboards were all at same time.  Apparent date was in June 2013, based upon forum thread 'playing with organization' by Toady One in the DF Modding board.

12 - An IRC channel for the lower boards is created and is advertised in this thread.  Conflict with the older Bay12 IRC, which had apparently split off from the main community years ago, developed for a time.  While the thread is locked, the current status of the IRC is unknown to this archivist.

This irc is still ongoing and quite populated. It's an okay enough place. It eventually settled on stricter moderation (given to the well know iron fist of Wrex.) and has been more or less a copacetic place since. Although there's been a bit of cultural drift from the forums itself. Mostly just Penguin wahhhing actually. There's been two other ircs that I've been to, one of which was a cesspool of salty banned members and and the other was a somewhat draconian but otherwise okay afaik place that I got banned from. (To be fair to them, I am a fucking asshole) I have no idea if the other ircs are still existent, probably not.

Also a lot of the stuff you have seems pretty have questionable relevance, but especially the stuff on banned people like GreatWyrmgold, necro, and shockspammer. I mean... Maybe greatwyrmgold is slightly notable because he wasn't banned from like, one super incident but rather just being persistently unpleasant for a long amount of time and only got worse. But the other two are just two more in the list tons and tons of banned assholes, I don't see how they are special enough to make mention of.

MAGMA (formatting probably incorrect) is still used as an injoke pretty frequently, so necro probably deserves to be on there. Shockspammer seemed like a pretty big deal at the time, but he didn't really have any impact on anything, so I dunno if he should stay or not.

You might say "but it spawned a union", well there was a petition for Aqizzar to return his avatar to normal after he put glasses on it, and I believe we've unionised against touhou in the past too.
Them fads were dime a dollar six years ago. Maybe scanfad was the last big'un.

Also, iirc FGRP's creation was a pretty momentous event, it wasn't actually made at the same time as the rest of the "other".


Difficult to find the starting point of the "DEPLOY THE IMAGE" birthday meme though. It seems to have persisted.

GreatWyrmGold is on there because, as priorly mentioned, he held the number one until he was surpassed less than a month ago.  I think holding onto it that long is worth it.  Heck, I'd be including when Toonyman lost it if I knew when exactly that was.

Necro910 is included as he was one of, if not the, driving force behind the frequency of magma being used a meme upon the forums.

Shock Spammer was included as it spawned a forumite-made utility (while it hasn't been used again, that's mainly due to never getting a similar attack again), led to a debate upon moderators on a pretty decent scale, and the attack was a regular thing over multiple days.

I really can't think of a really big one that occurred after it.  Unless you count grisha5, that is.

Do you know when that was, though?  That's the problem with establishing the timeline of events really far back, we can't get a good idea on exactly when it happened.  I could go by earliest post, but that may wind up being inaccurate due to stuff being moved over.  Heck, I half think the Einsteinian Roulette board's current date may be a bit off.
