how did you kill the goblin poet?  I've had poor luck sicking military on them in the past, as they are very spry and zip away when they see angry dwarves stomping at them.
I sent my dwarf persona near him and he stabbed him two times with the spear, then the goblin started to run around and a grower joined in to the chase.
Being faster than the armored dwarf, the grower managed to knock him down with a punch, just enough to get my alter-ego close to stab him again.

Crumen, did you know your save you provided is in early autumn?  you still have like half a year of play unless you're giving it away on purpose...

This should catch the turns up such that I stop in the spring-time for someone else to pick up.

27th Limestone, 101
What on Armoks green world is this place? Surely I have now seen the land of eternal damnation so prophesized by the priests. There were seven of us sent here . . Gravepunch . . I should have realized what this place was when the guards stopped escorting us three weeks before we reached our destination, saying that getting to the location and digging in was our only hope. After that first rain. . no, that was no rain. It was thick, choking anyone trying to breath. It was so dense that each drop hit like the fist of a giant, mangling our bodies as we sorry lot hauled ourselves inside the sweet security of the earth. We've been doing "volunteer" overseer shifts, switching out each couple days lest madness take us. My shift has just begun with the mayor yelling at me for several hours about his desperate need for proper quarters and a hammerer. I figure I should probably look over the fortress and leave the hammer till last, lest it be decided I didn't work fast enough...

1st Sandstone, 101
Aban Ardesdumat, a peasant, has begun constructing something in the craftsdwarfs workshop. I can't tell what it is, she keeps throwing things at me any time I get close, insisting that I can only see it when it's done. I hope it is as valuable to us as the table I intend to put in the mayors office to keep him quiet.

6th Sandstone, 101
She made an earing out of dacite with some cabochons in it. I don't want to rain on her parade . . interesting choice of words, there. . but this isn't particularly great. It doesn't strain our resources much and it makes for another happy dwarf so I suppose that's worth it, then. Still, a dacite earing?

9th Sandstone, 101
I can't take it anymore. I had to have it. There's a box full of all sorts of goods, from socks and shoes to lignite and even an anvil. I can't let that stay out there in that hellish excuse for rain. So, what did I do? I made use of that peasant who made the Dacite earing. After confirming that the rain does not appear to kill, just beat severely, I ordered the contents of the box brought into the fort. We need every last good we can get.

11th Sandstone, 101
This is humiliating. When conversing with the traders, we have only 73 pieces worth of goods to trade. This will be rectified. I have already ordered extensive mining operations in addition to the constructions already in place, such as more stairs and, of course, the mayors quarters.

13th Opal, 101
We heard fierce roaring below in the caverns. One of the dwarves said it sounded like a cave dragon, claiming his grand-mother had seen one. As one who was not particularly excited about going into the caverns anyway, this has ensured the hatch is staying sealed. I'm not dealing with a cave dragon, our five soldiers are barely trained as is and there's so much work left to do.

1st Granite, 102
Today I found out that no, I had not in fact seen the worst of this forsaken land. We have were-moles

Doing a quick headcount, we realized the cook had been locked outside when the drawbridge was raised. Furious, I asked where the traps I had ordered were. Turns out, the worthless excuses for dwarves that constituted our staff of mechanics had been meditating, socializing, and drinking for months, without a lick of labor to make them worth keeping. I tried to get the mayor to have them beaten but he didn't take my offer to be a hammerer, instead ooing and awing over the progress of his new quarters.. I don't know how much longer I can take this.

Continued
We killed the vermin. As it charged our soldiers, it changed back into a pathetic goblin. The coward was not ready to meet its death in the melee and ran away. We pursued it, cornering it against a wall and beating it to death. We'll need to move the body soon to avoid the miasma but I think it can stay for awhile as a warning to anyone else who wishes to harm this fortress.

20th Granite, 102
I've ordered the removal of the drawbridge. It needs to be redone, with a new channel dug. In addition, Athel Olinatast has begun building something in the Craftsdwarf's Workshop. I need as many rock crafts as possible so I hope they can finish quickly.

22nd Granite, 102
Some Humans have come to visit, no one has bothered to get the bodies out of the corridor so I'm sure that'll make us popular. In addition, Athel completed their artifact. It was a diorite bracelet  with some diorate cabochons named Scarcradles.

23rd Granite, 102
The Humans Oku Moralfondles and Itke Squirtedbean, what a name, wishes to entertain the people . . . I'm sorry, I can't let someone into this fortress who can bear that surname, denied.

6th Slate, 102
I cannot abide the dwelling of these Goblin bards. It is an insult to the Mountainhomes and all Dwarves that we drink and feast with these creatures of the dark. I've had enough! By the end of today, the two who have made their way here will die.

9th Slate, 102
It's done. The vermin are no longer polluting our halls with their presence.

23rd Felside, 102
A human lasher has joined the ranks of our military, but what I would kill for is as much coal as we could cram into every crevice of this fort. We have the metal and the numbers but not the fuel to let the beautiful flames of industry spring to life.

_____________________________________________________________________

Sorry about not ending exactly when spring started, I missed the notification. So here's the situation as I leave it. The bridge has been rebuilt, with a longer channel dug, the last thing left is mechanism installation, which I already have ordered. The slopes must be removed from the near side or else the enemy can crawl right up it, as happened with the weremole. The mechanics are finally starting to work, so expect to see mechanisms for traps rolling in. We're running a bit low on plants but have plenty drinks and prepared meals so just let those restock themselves for now. The mayors quarters and a planned one are on level 142 in case you can't find it. Level 137 is a stockpile, with 136 being for new workshops. This will allow for a more organized and efficient workflow with the workshops having their resources directly above them. It also reduces noise around sleeping quarters, making for happier dwarves. Below that level is just a mine level, if you have a specific thing you want to stick there, might as well make use of the space. Worst case, it can hold more workshops and stockpiles. I haven't dug down any further, instead focusing on the fort that we have right now. As noted in the IC recordings, the ooze doesn't appear particularly deadly so if you have to send dwarves out there, they'll live. Lastly, the mayor banned goblets so locking him under the bridge would not be the worst idea because we have nearly 400 of them and we seriously need to trade for wood, coal, gypsum powder (for casts) and various other goods.

This is a Exceptional cat leather journal, all writingdwarfship is of bad quality
Spring report:
There were trees designated for cutting.. Giant muchrooms, as they ar properly called.. but i dont see a entrance?
- "Excuse me Shen?"
- "Yesir?"
- "Go mine a entrance to the caverns, now!"
- "Once your done, tell the woodcutters the caverns are open"
In not long, the cavern trees are being cut under the supervision of the military.
