Toady has said many times that, yes he reads every single suggestions thread (at least the opening post).

And.. Toady has implemented suggestions before... and I don't mean "coincidentally", I mean he has specifically gone out of his way to implement a suggestion he found useful.

Ask him.

-- There are several types of suggestions here. The most common type is a suggestion (followed by discussion) for how one of the many, many planned features could be implemented practically. In this case it's hard to tell what parts of the suggestion he ended up using before deciding on the final approach.

Small suggestions (like gelders) tend to be part of the mini-updates between big releases.

But, yeah, you'd need to ask if you want statistics.

Toady used to take alot more suggestions, back when the game had less features. These days however stuff tends to not fit with his current vision for the game.

Especially since he is stuck adding Frameworks for future features. In a few years or so, after this phase winds down and he's done everything he can with the game it will likely reopen to varied suggestions again.

Also he supposedly reads the majority of threads, When he gets to them! Could be literally a few years man.

Do you have any examples? Genuinely interested.

From my understanding he prefers it or at-least has set out a guideline that he'll think about suggestions as long as they are within the boundaries set out in the stickied thread at the top of the forum on how to ideally make a suggestion. Usually not enourmously long (without good writing skills to stop it becoming a wall of text,) that are fairly referenced enough to other things on the forum if its not entirely individual.

If you really want to know a pattern of what toady likes to look at, following his historical posts are probably key. How much he reads between his own life & work is speculation. Its a pity the site doesn't have a 'recent/current' activity feed so we could go dev-twitching.

Standing work orders, wheelbarrows and mine carts, designatable safe areas, single tile embarks, adjustable invader caps. Just a few; Some probably already planned, but brought forward because of popular demand.

Yeah, originally he wasn't planning to do single-tile embarks at all (he was worried the play area was too small, and there was something about possible stability issues also, IIRC), but the demand was so great (to the extent that someone wrote a plug-in to enable it, I think it was part of DFHack, but don't quote me on it) that he changed his mind.

Its unfair to demand all of toady's time. Then again besides from the hard work he puts into whatever side projects (and rather speedily churning out 0.43 bugfixes etc) the last time toady spoke in the suggestions was in  the November of 2015 .

Perhaps nothing has just caught his particular attention? Who knows?

A fair bit of critique once a week/fortnight/month would be appreciated for letting players know he's taking active interest, but in the same mind i think toady might just be a tad bit intimidated by the suggestions forum on account that if he was more outspoken, that information might be pulled up and interpreted back at him elsewhere down the line. Thats just my own opinion.

Future suggestions of the forum thread required to coax him out?
