Ah. Yeah, the considerations change when you're meaning "early morning snack" when you say breakfast :V

Kinda' figure that 300k figure is using a different heuristic, though. Not actually sure, because I'm going to go out on a limb that the methodology of the report that came to that conclusion probably isn't in a language I can understand, and it's too bloody early to go and check and/or hit it with google translate, but it seems like fair guess on the face of it, eheh.

That's what breakfast is here in the Netherlands.

Ohw and hagelslag is awesome, unfortunately I am mildly intolerant for chocolate.
You're leaving out some important parts. Perhaps that we have a more bourgondic livestyle here in the Noord-Brabant part of the Nethelands, dunno, but around here Dutch breakfast for kids growing up is some bread with peanutbutter, jam or chocolate sprinkles (the latter two not every day, too much sugar and bad for teeth), some bread with cheese or meat, a glass of milk or buttermilk, and, don't forget, a piece of fruit or a glass of fruit juice, usually apple, pear or orange. Although breakfast cereals instead of bread are popular too nowadays.

Speaking of fruit, that stuff is really unaffordable for low income folks. Eating healthy is a privilege for the rich :P
Except apples, when it's the right season.

Over here breakfast often consists of bread/toast + cheese and/or meatstuff, and a bowl of sourmilk (or yoghurt or something similar) + musli pr cereal. Probably a glass of milk or something to it. Eating a bloody dinner for breakfast like the british or americans do would be considered very strange.

That sounds very tasty, but it's not sufficient for the healthy growth and development of a child.

I hope you never have kids.

Not sure what'd be wrong with that. It's the breakfast that raised Dutch population to be the tallest people in the world with a very high life expectancy. Although I think we lost the tallest people position a year or two ago to one of the Scandinavian countries.

Breakfast here is usually pies, coffee, and the blood of Chatham Islanders.

In the Middle Ages the term 'being put on a water and bread diet' was synonymous with being thrown in jail.
It was also a punishment on its own due to the typically painful digestive issues it can cause.
Nah, it was penitence for sinning. Fasting was not going without food, but rather eating nothing but bread and water for a certain period of time. For the more heinous stuff like sodomy you could get 10 years of it (interestingly, murder was only a single year). One of my favorite sins detailed in the penitential guides is vomiting the Eucharist. If it was intentional or caused by being drunk, you got 1 week of penitence. If it was unintentional (food poisoning and such), a day.

Or you could travel to Jerusalem. Just stepping inside the city (not doing anything else, just stepping inside) was equivalent to up to 10 years in indulgences.

Anyway, the One True Breakfast is bread, butter and cheese.

Sorry bro, us Dinaric Alps people are the tallest. Our typical breakfast I guess would be smoked bacon and that fat you skim off milk when you boil it, dunno what's it called in English.
