"Yeah, we need to get out of the open. Squad 1 will likely head down from their starting position, so we should head behind the forest, to at least get out of sight."

"Though, are you guys in the Hellcat OK? That creature is way too close for comfort."

If the creature is bellowing and flaring its ears, that sounds exactly like an aggressive display. It's probably a wandering male who takes offense to us being in the general vicinity, perhaps because we happen to be between him and the swampy/forested area we took cover nearby. Or maybe we're actually in his territory, in which case we need to be Oscar Mike now before it charges us. Standing still is a sign of defiance, and it doesn't look like this creature is willing to tolerate that at the moment.

Gwydion hears the bellowing, glances toward the elephant-like creature, his smile fading. "Commander, recommend we haul ass real soon."

I keep the gun pointed towards the creature, just in case it decides to charge. Aim for the eyes with rubber bullets if possible. But I'm hoping we don't need to piss it off.

City of Irrowskurn, 2430 Orbital Time, Day 140, 79 A.E.

The animal continues to approach and lifts its trunk level to the ground while retracting its ears. It then raises its head high up while rotating it back and forth.

The preparations made earlier allow the Hellcat to escape from the mud, thanks to the logs in the ground and mud cleared around it. [d6: 6] However, the creature reacts to this and walks closer. It does not charge. It does point its trunk your way.

Both tanks are now mobile. Smoke continues to rise from beside the M8. The Comet's crew emerges from the hatch, and you can see them waving their arms in unison. It seems they want you to come over.

"You have a very good intuition Gwydion, lets not get this thing mad. You have my permission to fire when you judge necessary." Raioyris says climbing back into the tank.

"Let's all get ready to go. Mia lets pull away slowly. Our maneuvering has been great so far thanks to your driving."

Leave Gwydion to watch/manage the animal situation. Keep watch for the other tanks.

"Well... Um I assume they will be allowed to start up there tank after the training match."

"You have anything in mind?"

Speaking of crew... I sure hope the M8 crew wasn't in their vehicle.

... ... Hmm. Well, if the creature's attention is focused on us, then it isn't on the other crew members. If we head to the Comet now we might draw the big alien elephant to them, and I'm not sure they'll appreciate that very much. It might be a better idea to lead it off first, or at least get out of its way so it hopefully just walks on by.

I mean, there's not that much we could even do if we headed over there, is there? I mean, the Hellcat might be light, but we can't carry the whole crew with us; the Hellcat isn't built for that much weight. About the only thing we could do is pick up someone who might be injured and drive them back to base.

Still, it might be worth a look, I dunno. If the creature pursues us to the Comet and gets too curious we can just weave around and distract it with gunfire if necessary... though again, I'm really wary of pissing off a giant alien elephant thing. It's up to you, guys.

How about this? Get someone to watch the Comet and see if they can make out what they're doing all that arm-flailing for. Is it an actual problem? Or do they just want to chat us up or something?

"Hold on, what about the Comet's crew?"

How many members of Team 3's crew is there? All of them?

The whole crew. 5 people. One of the group stayed back at the base.

The hellcat can carry ~400kg of people, the main limiting factor is that they'd have to stand on top of the vehicle, and it would be unsafe.

Huh.

Could the animal probably penetrate the Comets armor? They could just camp out in that if it can't.
No, but it might be able to flip it over, and then they'd all be trapped because they couldn't even open the tank's hatch to dig out. I have no idea how aggressive -- or playful -- this thing is. Some animals, like bears, will knock whole trees down just for fun or as a display of strength to a potential mate.

Now that's a wild idea. I wonder if our tanks' gasoline smells like swamp gas or pheromones or something, and this alien elephant thinks that's pretty familiar and is doing a mating call? Maybe it's sticking its trunk out on reflex to wrap around the trunk of another of its kind.

In this case, that'd probably be our tank cannon.

Which means we'd be just making this much, much worse by pointing the gun at it.

... ... Should we, um... get moving before it tries humping one of our tanks?

"Yeah, lets... get a move on I guess. If the Comet keeps their engine off they should be safe. Though maybe luring it towards us will be fruitful."

"Regardless, we best find someplace to lay an ambush for Squad 1. If they looked up and saw the flares, that is."

(Playergamer hasn't really said anything to confirm, so you'll take his place if he doesn't show up after the training round.

If you've read the sheets in the main posts, I've been removing most of the descriptions that don't have special mechanics attached to them. ;) Yours don't need explanations since they're self-explanatory. Sniper will affect both large and small guns, by the way.)

City of Irrowskurn, 2500 Orbital Time, Day 140, 79 A.E.

It seems have winded down. But there is still a squad out on the loose, and they know your position.

Spotting:
[-] Wunderkatze: You look around and spot a presence in the swamp. It's not an animal, you see... pink bunny ears and a pink hoodie. Animals don't wear those. You don't remember who wore such clothing at the base. The figure is running away, back into the swamp, toward the northwest.
[-] Ayn: She notices that the comet crew is now sending morse code. With their cell phone flashlights. "That's kind of cute..."
She flips over the map and sure enough there are some emergency procedures on the back, including morse code tables. There's also instructions on how to use medical equipment... and a warning not to walk into the swamps on foot.

[-] Tray: Sees nothing from his current position. However, there doesn't seem to be any crew in the M8. Nobody's getting out of the flipped vehicle. That could also mean...

It might be reproductive behavior, or it might be playful imitation. After all, if parrots are so smart, why can't larger creatures be? Either way, [4] not tracking it with your gun seems to be dispelling its advances. It's probably looking for some second half of the ritual performed by the female, and since it's not getting it it's losing interest.
