Get in the ASU-85, preferably as the driver or gunner. Ask Trucy if she wants to join as well.

"You could command it. Or be my loader."

"Alright, I'll take command then. Hopefully this won't go horribly wrong. You want to be our loader then, Trucy?"

Ask Trucy if she wishes to be our loader. Get in the commander's position and get a feeling for the inside of the vehicle.

(5) You manage to struggle free of the guards and sprint to a safe distance before tossing a knife at one! (5 + 1 = 6) The throwing knife zips through the air, slitting a guard's throat! It then travels around the group of guards like a boomerang. It (5) Slits another throat, (Three 6's in a row!) decapitates three more (!), (4) slices open the last guard's arm, and (2) narrowly misses a random bystander. It then flies back into your hand. Holy crap.

I kinda like the look of the Hellcat, personally. I'll take Gunner; it's probably the best fit for me, given my skillset. Wouldn't want itchy trigger fingers around explosive ordnance, after all.

I walk up to Raioryris, hand outstretched to shake. "Hey. Name's Gwydion. You looking for a gunner?" And if they're still looking for a full crew, I try to find Shirou in this crowd and wave him over, to see if he'd like to try his hand at driving this thing.

"I am. I'll be your commander and loader." Raioyris smiles politely, "Raioyris. That's my name."

Accept the hand shake.

I try not to look too concerned at this person's youth; that's just how the draft works, after all. Still, he has a firm, confident handshake, which is a good sign.

Looking at the armored bulk of the Hellcat, I find myself wishing I'd brought my phone to snap a picture. Still, there'll be time for that later. (Hah. Famous last words, right?)

Alright, time to find Shirou. I hope he's not taken yet.

Try to recruit one of the girls from the M8 team, after all, they don't need an assistant driver.[/b]

[d6: 3] You get one to come with you, although she's more talkative than you'd like. Her name is Guinevere, she plays racing games, and programmed one on her own... Shirou claims to drive himself to college every day so he has some real life experience. Either way, it may help to have a 5 man crew since it's spacious enough and the commander could use some help with situational awareness. Ayn offers to load, and seems to be strong enough.

There is a problem though. Current setup:

Hellcat: 5, Raioyris (Commander), Gwydion (Gunner), Guinevere(Driver/Radio Operator), Shirou (Driver/Radio Operator), Ayn (Loader),
ASU-85: 4, Tray (Commander), Jacob (Gunner), Jeremy (Driver), Trucy (Loader)

9 people. You have 10 total including the random computer club member you recruited. Mia has no role, and Shirou objects to breaking the rules by allowing Guinevere aboard (he might also just want to drive). Either way, you'll have to sort this out. Meanwhile, the gunners get some practice firing training rounds at 1m targets on the hillside, 500m away.

You learn how to rangefind, using the expected length of the target as a comparison with gauge lines in the scope, in order to determine the distance. It's all a matter of similar triangles. The horizontal bars tell you how high to aim at various distances.

Everyone has a sheet saying whom the squad will consist of, and the new student is not one of them.

City of Irrowskurn, 2300 Orbital Time, Day 140, 79 A.E.

[3] The wirbelwind is easy to bolt the guns onto, although all you have are live 20mm rounds. Target practice is done with actual flak versus balloons. You're not currently allowed to use it.

NPC Tanks:
Squad 1
Alpha,  Sheridan: 4/4, High Heaven University Computer Club
>Extremely light tank with aluminium armor. Has AT rockets and a 155mm short-barrelled cannon. Has a 50-cal.
>15 tonnes, 300hp engine, 70 kmh top speed, amphibious
Beta,   M48 Patton: 5/5, Irrowskurn VR Reenactment Organization (1 standby)
>Heavy tank with a good 90mm gun and heavy frontal and turret armor. It can kill any other squad's tanks from the front, but is slow and has weak side armor. Has a 50-cal.
>50 tonnes, 750hp engine, 30 kmh top speed

Squad 2
Gamma,  Comet: 5/5, College Students (1 standby)
>Medium tank with unsloped armor. It has a powerful 77mm high-velocity gun and is very fast for its size.
>33 tonnes, 600hp engine, 45 kmh
Delta,  Greyhound: 4/4, Jane + Friends
>Armored car, fast on level ground but doesn't do well in mud. 37mm gun that can pierce rear armor of tanks. Has a 50-cal.
>8 tonnes, 110 hp engine, 90 kmh top speed, Stealthy

Player Tanks (Squad 3):
Epsilon,Hellcat: 5/5, Raioyris (Commander), Gwydion (Gunner), Mia (Driver), Shirou (Backup Driver), Ayn (Loader)
>Very fast tank destroyer with paper armor. Can penetrate most tanks head-on if at no slope, but it can be penetrated by a 50 caliber machine gun.
>18 tonnes, 400 hp engine, 80 kmh top speed
Zeta,   ASU-85: 4/4, Tray (Commander), Jacob (Gunner), Jeremy (Driver), Trucy (Loader)
>Airborne tank destroyer. Very lightweight and lightly armored on all sides. Its gun is fixed forward, but can penetrate most tanks from any angle except the slope on the Patton.
>15.5 tonnes, 210 hp engine, 45 kmh top speed

Unused
Eta,    105 M4 Sherman: 0/5
Theta,  FPz. IV Wirbelwind: 0/5

Cpt. Feldman steps out onto the field as the crews familiarize themselves with their tanks.

"Listen up cockroaches!" he bellows. "You are going to engage in armor-on-armor combat, no-holds-barred. The three chosen squads will start at corners of the training field, and move to neutralize the other squads. Commanders: Report to your starting positions as shown on your maps. If you neglected to grab one on the way out, you may exchange your crew's weekend passes for one."
He holds with him an untouched stack of maps from a table that was off to the side, near the pavilion's back exit.

The training field itself is bounded by barbed fence along the sides facing the city. However, the far side of the field terminates in "jungle," which is very uneven terrain scattered with overhangs and partially-eroded mounds of plant growth. New Terra's equivalent of a forest.

You are SQUAD 3. Scale: 0.5 km per tile.

Terrain Types:
Fields:  The meadows of Irrowskurn are covered in a thick layer of grasses about 1m high, although in places near other plants (trees, swamps) where there is a source of water, the grasses will grow even taller, up to 2m.
Hills:  Irrowskurn is surrounded by plains, but on these plains there tends to be a buildup of plant material over time. After centuries, living mounds of wood and vine have built up, allowing lighter vehicles to cross, while heavy vehicles tend to sink.
Trees:  New Terra lacks normal trees, but communal plants tend to grow into the shape of a mound. During Spring flooding, these mounds erode away at the base, putting increased pressure on the 'trunk' and causing more roots to grow there, strengthening the base, some growing tall and thin while others grow broad depending on the type of plant. These grow like trees, and can be knocked over by heavy tanks but will block light tanks.
Swamp:  At some places, there is a buildup of water that remains after the Spring floods. These places host a thriving ecosystem that lives in the mud. Giant meter-long leeches, carnivorous frogs, and mudrays with deadly toxin are among the local critters you might find here.

[-] On the way to the spawn point, the Hellcat's tracks fall apart. It turns out one of the links was printed hollow and couldn't take the strain. Mia goes about replacing them, and found a quick way to re-link the tracks in action using a wrench.
[-] The ASU-85 trudges along the hills. The crew smells gasoline after getting close to the spawn point.

You see a volley of red flares coming from the direction of the tents, lighting up the countryside: The match has begun.

Ammo:
[45x] 76mm Training Shells
[40x] 85mm Training Shells
[400x] 50cal Rubber Bullets
[2000x] 7.62mm Rubber Bullets

Supplies:
[20x] Flares (Red, White, Blue)
[81] 3 days worth of sandwiches
[80x] Tread links
[100m] Welding wire
[100x] Bolts, wires, connectors
[555/625 L] 200 km left on Hellcat (225 km max range)
[365/400 L] 265 km left on ASU-85 (290 km max range)

Tools:
[9] Binoculars
[4] Saws
[2] Welding kits
[2] Torches
[3] Wrenches
[4] Hammers
[9] Shovels

"I'm thinking we should to the forest south of the center most cluster of hills. It will give us a nice position to ambush Squad 2 from. Also it has flanking protection from both directions in the form of swamp south and a nice barrier of hills to the north."

Raioyris pulls up the map to get a second look at, "Of course we'll have to navigate 1 kilometer of swamp. That will put our skills to the test."

"Shirou tell that to the ASU crew."

"I mean suggest it to them"

"Erh, if you don't mind,"

"Please."

Call Hermia to me, give her some food and then release her. Stare at her as she leaves to suggest that she follow me.

((Our squad is an ASU and a M18. Squad two is a M8 and a Comet, Squad 3 is the M46 Patton and the Sheridon.

You may be right; however, by 'swamp' I'm hoping that the GM doesn't mean a sea of swamp water. I imagined it more as rough swampy terrain.))
