But anyway: How would an ability that put up a shield for the caster and an ally be balanced? Like, a shield with it's own HP, but I'm not sure how that HP would be calculated. For balance it'd likely have a limit to how long it can be up, and a cooldown.
Hm, it would depend I guess. The shield could be 1d4/LvL + WILL with maybe a turn cooldown. Keep in mind it's a shield, and even if it breaks, it will still block damage unless an ability pierced through it.

Whole-party abilities tend to be really strong, especially if they increase in power over time. I say give it a max of two targets including yourself, a very low bonus, and yeah, some way to reset it. Raising its level will make it better, obviously.

The gods are fine, but are currently occupied with much of war to protect creation among other things; you can still have priests and shit though, but there will be no gods suddenly coming to your aid like they did in V2 and V3.

For the DR cap, I would say your INT is the cap for it.

As in, the shield's HP is recalculated whenever it goes up?
Each level the ability has gives it +1d4 HP, plus your WILL.

Yes; when close together, that is. I would say 35 feet.

As it should. Drawbacks and strengths, etc. etc. One of the reasons why I think this system is much better than our others.

Another question: Could there be an ability that converts damage taken by the shield into damage that can be dealt by the user? Like, shield takes 10 damage, person does an extra 2 on their next attack? Presumably as a separate ability, with levels increasing the damage boost. Alternatively, could there be a separate ability that turns a similar proportion into an heal on the person that had been targeted by the attack? Or would those both be effects of more levels on the shield?

If you draft it and if you can explain it, I will balance it. Get as creative as you want  :P

More for the former, since most of the people there are just normal people, but they do what they can to fight.
