(( I think Trump's political success comes from a very good understanding of propaganda and how to exploit human stupidity rather than sheer luck or fate. ))

This is my vote for where to start.
It's a port, it's relatively near Hellisheiđi, and most importantly, it's in Iceland. :P

((So, how easy is it to get weapons in Iceland? I feel like that might be somewhat important, at least for the first couple of turns.))

((Apparently you need a licence. Which is why we need a native Icelandic character who would plausibly start with one. :P))

((That would definitely be helpful. Is there a limit on how many weapons one person could buy in a set amount of time? 'Cause if they can only get a .22LR, it might not hurt to look into the black market))

What about using tools as weapons?

Obviously not ranged ones, but my dad happens to have a set of tools in the garage, including a pickaxe, a shovel (or two), a few hammers (of varying sizes, large as a sledge hammer to small as a mallet and claw hammer).

EDIT: Wait, ELDRITCH SURVIVAL SIMULATOR. Using melee weapons might not go so well, right?

((Maybe, to help speed this along, Aigre could give us a list of potential places with pros and cons, and we just pick from those.))

It's probably a good idea to reduce your choices in terms of starting places.

I'll gather some data, create the appropriate visualizations in my head, and create a shorterned list of scenarios.

http://www.eib.org/attachments/pipeline/20080135_nts_en.pdf

Hellisheiđi Power Station:
- Underground pipes are vulnerable to disruption
- Above-ground pipes are vulnerable to disruption
- potentially unlimited geothermal power.
- geothermal fluids have poisoned all nearby groundwater supplies
- very harsh winters
- small and mostly close-knit icelandic population. Riots are less likely.
- invaders must cross the sea to get to you.
- Built up area isn't that large. But the compound sprawls because of pipeworks and pumping stations.

Dunnottar Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunnottar_Castle
- Fortress surrounded by steep cliffs
- Relatively remote and away from civilization
- Britain is a weapon restricted country

Fort Sumpter, South Carolina
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Sumter
- Fortress surrounded by water on 3 sides
- the sea... shouldn't freeze over... for a while. And even if it does, the water levels might change
- Now a historical monument/museum
- historical bane was its difficulty of being supplied. Land access is easy to cut off. Fortress was supplied by sea while at war.
- Maybe ERRANT could run a fleet of boats to supply the fortress.

Alcatraz Island, San Francisco
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcatraz_Island
- Well fortified prison island
- zero land access, boats are compulsory
- larger land and builtup area than Fort Sumpter
- has its own (old) powerhouse and water tower

Monteriggioni, Italy, The tiny walled city from Assassin's Creed
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monteriggioni
- Tiny walled city, population 9165
- Economy is nearly non-existent
