Can you even get pork in Israel? The market must not be huge.

Yeah, apparently the Jews with Russian or Ukrainian background do eat it. Friend of mine who lived in Tel Aviv for a good time told me his apartment's ground floor had a butchery, with pork too, run by Russians.  :D
When I lived in Central Asia, there were folk Muslims who would eat pork and drink alcohol. When questioned about this, they would respond, "Oh, we're bad Muslims."

We are succeeding. You can tell, because the Oxford English Dictionary made an emoji word of the year.

While I got nothing against bacon and enjoy it on occasion, I really sometimes wonder at how the United States enshrines this bit of meat, and when it is consumed there. I wonder how consumption of such amounts of greasy stuff at breakfast started.

Semi-vegetarian for reasons of habit and being mildly allergic to most sorts of meat, including pig bits. Nay, I say, to your bacon heresies!

The story I've heard is that the meat industry wanted to sell more bacon, so they asked doctors if it was good for you and manipulated the results to falsely suggest that a breakfast with bacon was healthier than one without. Americans were tricked long enough for it to become a lasting habit.

Bacon for breakfast makes the most sense if you were drinking the night before. If you can stomach it then your guts feel better with a bit of grease in them. As for how it started it probably makes more sense if you live or work on a pig farm.

Well, what exactly is bacon? Is it literally certain put parts with oil?

It's generally cured by salting & drying or smoking. Maybe you can preserve it with oil but it's not the norm. Tends to be the backside of the pig.
