One thing I forgot to mention: A NanoTrasen branded emergency flare gun is standard issue among mechs, and it is illegal not to have a flare gun of some kind on mechs. It has 3 ammo (more is able to be made later) and is very very bright. Anything that this is shot at is either going to charge the source or run away.

Turns out, orbital re-entry isn't playing nice with you. You are jostled around and you feel like you might throw up. Then you hit the ground. Oh mother of Lord that hurt. Even through the armor plating of the mech and the airbags and the parachutes, falling from orbit isn't quite as peachy as one would assume. You're all bruised and battered, but alive.

From above as you were coming in you could make out some nearly indiscernible features to the South-East. A small mountain range is in the center of the pseudo-island.

Your mech comes to a stop in a little outbreak of stubby trees on the side of a small mountain after leaving a mech-sized crater in said side of said mountain. Looking out you can briefly see two flashes of light fly into the forest to the North and East. You take a deep breathe and decide you never want to fall from orbit again.

Thinking about your options it seems as if you really don't have a lot. You recount what happened: The whole ship shaking as you were woken from cryosleep. Following the crowd until the blast doors started to give way, getting in just in time - your reverie is interrupted by a jolt and your mech goes stumbling. You feel scared, what could make an impact so strong to nearly knock a mech over? You soon find out

It is about half the size of the mech. It is on its haunches, hackles raised and growling. It lets out a howl that you can hear through the cockpit and over the air-conditioning. The - thing - leaps at you!

At least the trees broke my fall you think as you maneuver the mech out of the mud. Damnit, you think, I fell further West than I intended Looking up, you can see avians of some description. Initially you estimate them to be the size of an eagle back home. Then you see that one of the birds has some kind of... wolf in its talons and you realise that each bird is about a third of the size of your mech ((for OOC reference, it is carrying the same species of animal that Gwolf is facing)), maybe even larger. From your high-school biology classes you can see that it is a pack hunter. You shudder, I do not want to attract their attention
With no immediate threat present, you can do anything with reason. You have a science bay, you could do some analysis of the atmosphere or whatnot. Or you could try and establish radio contact with another mech which made it out, although you doubt that your radio has enough range and either way, that mountain would get in the way of any EM waves. Wait, is that a mountain?

As you stand your mech up - my mech, you think, I'm going to have to get used to calling it that - you notice something: You aren't alone. Standing opposite you is what appears to be a gigantic bird. However, it does not seem to be paying much attention to you as you pick yourself up. It barely stopped scratching and pecking at the ground for even a second. It somewhat resembles a peacock. Its spurs are obviously razor sharp and the beak easily dug up roots. It initially seems to be about the size of your entire mech before you realise that that's just its feathers perked up. It seems like it would take up about 50kg of storage space out of 200kg - if you could catch it and, if necessary, disable it. It looks like it could be fragile.

The bright pink and yellow scorpion hangs upside-down and swings slowly as the vines cling tightly to it. With some effort, the pneumatic clamps shear through a vine and the weight of the mech - now supported by a single tree - snaps the branch. The mech lands on its feet pretty heavily, but causing no damage that couldn't be repaired easily, just a recalibration of the shocks or something like that.
The mech pivots easily on its four legs as you look around, getting your bearings. You're sure that you saw at least two other mechs fall to the West and another went behind that mountain. On your way down you got a slightly better view of the structures and you could see that it was definitely not a natural formation. Something - or someone - had to have made it. You seem to have any number of choices. Look for other survivors or investigate the structure or something entirely different.

Once the actions and combat are resolved I'm going to move the time to night. During the day you guys were able to move up to 20kms each. Feel free to PM me regarding any questions or private/secret actions you want to do.

The animal looks at you quizzically as the mech ambles closer. When you're just outside grabbing distance it flares its tail feathers threateningly. It seems to be bigger than you! The tail feathers hum as they're shaken back and forth and - if they're anything like peacocks back home - two females and another male comes out from the bushes and, turning around in the cockpit, you can see another two with fan tails and another three without, all looking at you threateningly.

The trees around here are massive monoliths, however you do find some deadfall and you manage to fel a tree by crushing it with your clamps. After acquiring 200kg of deadfall and sapling, you begin walking towards the mountain. You see some birds in the far distance, but nothing close to you.

EDIT: The coilgun bolt passes well clear of the Blood Fang, but the thing is already in the air.

you catch the 'blood fang' in midair, the inertia alone staggering you [5-1 still >2] and you become dangerously aware of how high up you are - it wouldn't kill you, but it wouldn't tickle either. You tighten your clamp's grip on the leg and the blood fang howls in pain (7 damage), writhing and trying to break free.

The Blood Fang falls to the ground heavily and limps back to safety. It whines a little as you step towards it and away from the edge. It begins licking its wounds all the while keeping one eye trained on you as though you may attack it.

The blood fang is exactly as shown in the picture, except it is wounded pretty severely. There seems to be no more immediate danger, just so long as you don't fall. At the angle the mountain is at, it's not actually falling that worries you, it's that its steep enough to be unclimbable in a bipedal mech and when you start rolling, you wouldn't stop until the bottom. You happen to have found a flat part, though, about halfway up. Looking out, you can see clouds below you and above you.
You disengage the controls and reach around to see what you have in the way of food, all the while keeping a close eye on the Blood Fang. You find a cooler bag with about ten kilograms of beef jerky inside. There's a few bottles of water and some chocolate, too. Under a bunch of the Jerky there are ration packs
It wouldn't last forever, but hopefully it would last for long enough.


You notice that the blood fang is trying to limp towards a small cave, nigh indiscernible from the surrounding rock, which you would have missed if you had not seen the Blood Fang slip inside. It'll be dark soon.

Follow it. If it is hiding there, it must be less unsafe than outside. Move calmly, and don't step on the Blood Fang. Turn on the lights in the mech.
