My leader has a moderatly wounded back.
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:45:00 pm »

So I was digging a mote, this mote happened to be about 10 floors deep.
My leader/sheriff/legendary miner/talented mason/broker fell 6 floors. He lived but he had about 20 gray wounds (they healed within a day or two), 10 brown wounds (they healed a day after the gray ones), 6 yellow wounds (they healed after a month), and a mangeled arm.

I was actually overjoyed that his arm turned to yellow after only a month and about 10 days, I understand that since his spine won't heal, he won't be going into sparring ever, but I'm ok with that. I'm wondering if when his arm is healed if he will be able to walk again?

He's ecstatic, err, she's ecstatic, so I'm not concerned about that. I'm just hoping that eventually she will be able to walk again and continue leading my fortress. I just adore my little Bomrek, the really wierd part is she's not particularly tough, she's perfectly agile, maybe that effects healing time though.

Anyways, her upper back is moderatly wounded according to the wiki, which it says is ok, if it's any worse they will be immobile until they die, but since it's only a moderate wound, even though it won't heal, will she be able to walk again? Thanks for the help. (And yes all her furnature is Platinum, I think she deserved it, alluminum is SO tacky)

Yes, she should be able to get out of bed fine once all the yellow wounds are healed.

Sweet, thanks  :D She's fully healed except for her back and arm, kinda surprised since it happened on the 10th of late winter, and summer just began. Seems kinda quick, anyways, thanks for the info.

"Knifehammer" is a drat awesome name.  Of course they're the leader, how could anyone compete with "Knifehammer?"

Yeah, knifehammer is pretty awesome, I also have a miner named "earthstrike", a weaver named "portalworthy", and an engraver named the best of all..."Silverbeans"

I forget what "Bomrek" means...  If I had DF on this machine, I'd be able to pull up my dwarven dictionary and find out, but I don't.

You never know what sort of random first name will pop up and mess up the whole name.  I once had a male dwarf with the highly respectable name of Kilrudastesh "Bronzecudgels".  I then looked up his first name, "Kulet".

Abbey.  Abbey Bronzecudgels.  Not quite Abbey-normal, just Abbey.

all the organ wounds dont make dwarves rest... you can have a dwarf with 2 red lung walking in your fortress, working as usual, and then it suffocates and dies... spine is organ damage, so you could be lucky and have it heal before the yellow arm, or the arm will be healed before and he will work as usual, but wih brown spine. maybe he will colapse time to time, or something like that.

Actually, neck/brain/spine wounds never heal. Luckily, she can still be 100% active (non-military) since it's only moderatly damaged and not broken, the arm should heal, but the spine never will.

Bomrek Means Whip, Whip knifehammer, his parents must've been violent.

She lives!
  :D

1 year, 1 month and 3 days hehe.

Oh, and I think bomrek translates to whipping. So whipping-knife hammer, pretty sweet name.

Err, then Whip-Knife Hammer, still awesome name hehe.

Wait, what?
My leader got an identical wound (Well, brown upper spine, not the assorted others) and I could swear that he eventually went back to normal.

Well it's been a good 4 years now and she still has the wound, but it's ok,

Legendary: Organizer, Record Keeper, Engraver, Miner and she's an accomplished appraiser.

I might make her a siege operator too. That way she can contribute in defense, but she won't be in the front lines  :D

Yeah, I was wrong - it won't heal. I was thinking of how that happened in my old fortress. I abandoned it and built a similar one which is why I was thinking it had healed (Obviously the new leader has no such wound).

If Nist Akath is any indication, a brown spinal wound will in no way hamper your dwarves military skills. The Captain, Adalore and the late Sula, as well as a number of other dwarves, all had brown wounds to one part of the spine or another. Those three are/were the military's best melee-soldiers.

It would be even better if he was "Knifewrench".

I've heard that brown wounds to nervous system cause them not to spar ever. (nervous system being; spine, brain, spleen, etc.)
