Chapter 1: The Games Commence
Location: Grand Fairbank Mall, Toronto, Canada
"The revenue from this fight better be worth having to buy an entire mall." - Anonymous ArenaCorps. Representative
Kars look around the interior of C.J. Nickels, shirts, pants, skirts and earrings lining the walls and ailses as far as his eyes could see, which did not at all impress him as the temple where his coveted treasure is being kept hidden away.
"This is the place where the Red Stone of Aja is hidden? Don't make me laugh." [Treasure Hunting: 1] Kars look around the store, throwing racks of clothing around without a care for organization or politeness, fixating and finding the mask. Miraculously, within the first couple minutes of the store he finds the Red Mask! A giant smiles appears on his face as he reaches out towards the mask, only to see that there was an entire rack of them! What was this forgery? His smile turns to a scowl and the Pillarman puts his fist through these knock off masks, obliterating all of them as well as part of the wall behind them in one blow.
He resumes his search going further into the store, not finding a trace of the real Red Mask which he knows for certain is somewhere in this mall. What he finds instead are two men exchanging a handshake in the center of the store, a silly looking boy and an even more ridiculous half-naked man with nonsensical headgear, Kars the latter person's appearance downright offensive. He runs forth and forcibly breaks up the handshake before either of the hand shakers realize that he is there,
"Excuse me, this one is mine." Kars says this politely as he shoves Robin away while turning towards Johnny Jokotaru and creating a curved Light Blade on the outside of his right forearm. [3+2(Heightened Senses) vs. 2+3] Kars swings his forearm forward and the light blade slashes deep into Johnny's midsection, which would have cut any normal man directly in half, but when the blade makes contact Johnny's crown flashes for a split second and the light blade glances right off of his torso as if it were a stone weapon bouncing off a steel wall. Kars is admittedly surprised,
"W-What?!"Kars takes a few steps back after his whiffed strike, getting into a proper fighting stance and ready to retaliate against Johnny or his ally. Jokotaru prepares to introduce himself in his typical manner, when he is interrupted by yet another new arrival,
"THIS STORE HAS FAILED TO BE EEEEEEEEVVVVVVVIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLL. IT SHALL BE DESTROYED.
EEEEEEEEVVVVVVVIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLL-" The three previously mentioned combatants all turn their attention to a man who has climbed on top of one of the nearby glass jewelry display cases, screaming and waving his hands around erratically. His body is covered in a heavy black cloak and what can be seen of him is a long grey beard and two glowing red eyes. He speaks in what sounds like tongues while twirling around a black stick, causing a giant metal disk spiked like a sea urchin to appear directly above him. He points his wand at his opposition in C.J. Daniels and the Mashy Spike Plate goes flying forward. [10 vs. 6+3] Robin and Kars leap back out of the path of the spinning spike plate before it reaches them, and so does Johnny but he is a split second too late. Most of his body is untouched, except for his right thumb which is taken right off by a single spike as the plate spins by him, Johnny's thumb flies away at a high velocity and lands on the white tile floor, some of it turned red by his blood. The plate is not finished yet, as it slams into the wall and bounces off of it with the buoyancy of a basketball and head straight for Kars! [10 vs. 9+2] This time, Kars doesn't even jump and instead just pivots his body as the plate goes flying by him, missing his head by an inch, and then having used up all of its spellpower, the spinning death wheel vanishes. Kars smiles deviously at the Evul Mage,
"Your parlor tricks don't scare me. Let me show you how a real Pillarman fights!" Kars takes off at the mage like an Olympic sprinter, and then jumps up to his level with a similar level of athleticism, [6+2 vs. 8] and launches a straight punch at the mage, a blade of light extending from his knuckles. The mage ducks and the light blade goes
barely over him, tearing some of the fiber at the top of his cloak's hood. Kars and Evul Mage collide and fall behind the glass jewelry display onto the floor; neither are injured however and get back to their feet within a couple seconds.
After Mecha-Hitler announces his return, Katana McKatana almost immediately turns the corner and rushes for the Fuhrer. The Samurai screams, his blade held high above his head and his sandals clacking against the concrete ground.
"GAAAAAAAH! BAKA GAIJIN GO HOME, DISHONORABRU FOOL!" Hitler furrows his brow, this is the type of gift he got in exchange for letting Japan join the Axis? While Katana is running full-speed at Hitler, his mechanical shoulders open up and from these holes comes two rusty but still imposing Gatling Guns.
"DIE! [7 vs. 1+2+2] The guns unloads dozens of rounds into the Samurai, most of them missing and instead shattering windows and doors on display, but a handful of shots find their mark. Despite this, the Samurai is somehow able to keep moving without being slowed down at all, his mystical armor abosrbing the force, though it is damaged as a result.
Johnny Jokotaru was having a good time posing for himself in the mirror and then later making a friend and helping out this new friend with clothes shopping. As the two of them discuss their pasts, one of those damned Pillarman that Johnny had heard so much about appeared out of nowhere, and unsuccessfully attempted to kill him. Even worse, the Pillarman rudely interrupted Johnny's handshake with Robin! Before Johnny can properly react, a wizard appears out of nowhere and conjures up a spiky plate of doom that cuts off his finger. Johnny is ready to retaliate against either the Pillarman or the wizard, potentially both, but they end up fighting one another. Johnny had gone from posing to friendship to a three-way fight in just a couple minutes. He realizes just how crazy this arena could be, but at least he is here with an ally.
After getting Johnny's opinion on which coat to get, Robin looks to checkout to purchase the coat but it is empty, in fact the place is totally devoid of any sort of customer or staff. This means he can probably just take it without paying with no negative legal or moral consequences, though Johnny feels weird just putting on this fancy coat without paying or trading for it. After putting on the coat, Robin is shoved aside by Kars and then has to jump out of the way of the Evul Mage's spiky plate, followed by these two new hostiles engaging one another. When Kars and the Evul Mage both get back to their feet after their scuffle, Robin points his hand at the dark magician and sends forth Thoron, a powerful signature magical strike. [10 vs. 1] From Robin's palm a beam of pure energy extends into the mage's chest; he looks down at the beam with an expression of mixed disappointment and amusement.
"I'M DEAD FIRST? HOW CLICHE." There is then as burst of energy that is as loud as a dozen thunderclaps and powerful enough that all of C.J. Daniels vibrates and the lights flicker; at the same time, the attack is so concentrated that Kars, standing only a couple feet away from the mage, is not hurt at all but he does bask in an intense heat as if he were standing right next to a furnace. When the store returns to its normal state, the spot where the Evul Mage is standing is replaced by a small pile of fine ash.
Robin has lightning'd the Evul Dark Mage! [+1 Kill]
+Ability: Spiritual Mediation: Robin can enter Spiritual Mediation, which cause their next turn to be spent Meditating, and can not perform actions or defensive rolls during this turn. The next two turns they will be in the 'Spiritually Awakened' state and receive an overall +2 to all rolls. Once the Spiritually Awakened State has ended, their is a 3 Turn Cooldown before they can enter Spiritual Meditation again.Once he appears, Paper Mario briefly has an existential crisis over his Schrodinger-esque dilemma of simultaneously being in the 2nd and 3rd dimension yet somehow also in neither, and the accompanying crisis of not being filled with spaghetti. He sublimates these deep problems by focusing on pulling a Fire Flower out of his pocket and attaching it to the ground. The big-eyed flower somehow roots itself in the concrete floor and bounces around happily, occasional flaring up with heat.
[Lucky Day: Mario's next ability that he uses that has a Cooldown has its next Cooldown reduced by 1 Turn.]
Rez hears a lot of accented yelling from the front of the store and runs towards it, spotting Katana McKatana charging at Mecha-Hitler and tanking a bunch of bullets. Rez hungrily licks his lips before cutting through the next aisle perpendicular to McKatana and Hitler, literally bursting through a display door on the way and standing in between the two fighters, turning towards the Samurai and intercepting him.
"I HEAR A MEATSACK!" He yells at McKatana, barring his sharpened vampiric-like teeth and pulling the Bloodletter out of his cloak, a long jagged dagger that was once black but has been stained crimson. [9 vs. 8+2+1] McKatana slows down enough to be able to respond to this new threat and when Rez thrusts forward for his throat, the Samurai steps to Rez's side before it can land, the Bloodletter sinking straight into thin air. [8+2+2 vs. 9] McKantana slashes his sword horizontally at Rez and cuts the blood-drinker's left arm off at the elbow. The limb falls to the ground, twitching and grabbing at nothing, and Rez is horrified at the sight of all of this blood! Well, not really, he's actually pretty okay with all of this considering his whole job. He is not McKatana's main enemy at the moment however, so the Samurai kicks him in the back of the leg, causing him to fall on the ground, allowing the Samurai to resume charging at Mecha-Hitler, screaming and with little concern for his own safety.
Once the announcer lets out his signature catchphrase that is heard all over the mall, Kyoko gets prepared for the battle royale to begin.
"Guess its time now. They coulda given me some more time to enjoy this stuff." She tosses the empty bag of candy aside, having eaten enough treats to send a baby elephant in cardiac arrest. With no around to witness, she performs her elaborate Magical Girl Transformation and enters her powered up form, Slayer of Witches, Protector of Earth, Sen of Pai. She slams the metal blunt end of her mighty Modular Spear into the ground, creating a small crater and doing this for no other reason than maybe she hates the bright purple floor style that is everywhere in Candyland. Kyoko pokes around now, looking for Witches to slay, and while she finds no Witches she does see something just as odd and maybe even just as dangerous: a skeleton with a huge grin walking away from her and towards the escalators that lead down to Toyworld.
An organized squadron of Stormtroopers, stands directly outside the entrance for Toyworld, taking cover on either part of the walls next to the glass doors, to remain invisible to any nearby opposition that could see through the glass. A highly ranked Stormtrooper, indistinguishable from the rest of his squad, pauses for a moment and holds out his hand as a hologram, transmission from headquarter.
"Sargent, your objectives. Recover an unknown number of valuable artifacts. It is believed most of these are already in the hands of the hostiles or are also being searched for by them. Do not let them fall into enemy hands." The Sargent nods to the hologram of his leader,
"Understand Commander. Consider it done." The Hologram fades and AL-2048 nods. Two Stormtroopers break from either side of the wall and kick open the door to Toyworld. With their rifles up, they scan the interior and then motion for everyone to follow them. The squad spreads out among the aisles of games, books and devices in Toyworld, staying far apart enough to avoid being an easily targetable cluster while remaining close enough to support one another. Turning a corner, they come across Paper Mario admiring his Fire Flower.
"Squad, open fire!"Precisely one moment before the first line of Stormtroopers can begin firing, the Fire Flower launches a stream of pollen at the Stormtroopers, giant pieces of pollen that are on fire. [7 vs. 8] The Stormtroopers duck and combat roll out of the way as fireballs hit the ceiling, floor and aisles of toys around them, starting numerous fires in the area. A couple of Stormtroopers are skimmed by the flying fireballs, resulting in small fires appearing on their suits, but they quickly manage to snuff them out with their hands, leaving them with black spots on their armor. [2 vs. 8] The Stormtroopers fire back at the Fire Flower, and if the Stormtroopers have difficulty shooting a human-sized target, how well do you think they would fare against one a foot tall? They blast apart a few RV Cars on display but fail to damage the flower at all. [7 vs. 9] They also fire at Paper Mario, who adopts the tactic of transforming into a small tube and rolling at the Stormtroopers, evading their shots while closing the ground between them. [8 vs. 7] Mario picks up speed and then leaps up, the rolling tube collides with the torso of a single Stormtrooper at high speeds as if it were a small car on the highway, and the Stormtrooper goes flying back into metal support beam. He slumps over, heavily wounded but still breathing. Meanwhile, Mario's momentum off of this sends him up into the air where he quickly and effortlessly changes back into his standard form and comes down on a second Stormtrooper head-first. Mario's boots collide with the soldiers helmet creating the large cracking sound of skull and spinal column fracturing under heavy pressure; Mario bounces off, while the Stormtroopers falls to his knees, lets out a sharp cry and falls onto his face, motionless. By this time, more Stormtroopers had moved up to this area and continued firing at Paper Mario, forcing the Plumber to run into cover behind a large train set in an adjacent aisle.
Sans quietly chuckles as he hears the announcer go off. "*
heh. well, gotta do it sometime i guess" He walks to the escalator which leads down to Toyworld, hands in his jacket, but not before he stops to greet the magical girl who had just discovered him. His perpetually smiling skull turns to face her, "*
hey kid. what do you call hazelnut spread that becomes a magical girl? nutella " Afterwards, Sans gets lies down on his stomach and rolls down the escalator. Once down in Toyworld, he flips onto his feet without moving a muscle, or bone actually, and walks forward until he sees Paper Mario hiding behind an elaborate train set while laser beams fly all around him coming from the plumber's front. Sans approaches Paper Mario from the side, a floating swarm of bones appearing around the skeleton. "*
hey jumpman, time for you to go back down the pipes." [5+1 vs. 2-1] Paper Mario, now being attacked from two angles, is forced to stand up and use his jumping ability to jump and weave over and under flying lasers and bones. As Mario leaps over some errant blaster fire, one of Sans flying bones smashes right into his Italian jaw, the separation of jawbone is audible and Mario does a back flip and lands face down on top of the train set, miniature bridges and train cars crushed underneath him as lasers beam continue to streak in the air above and around him.
McKatana rushes for Mecha-Hitler who has to cease his shooting for now to prevent permanently damaging his Gatling Guns. [2+2 vs. 10] The Spammer brings his blade down in a vertical cut to slash Hitler right in half, but as soon as it hits the top of the Nazi's hard metal skull, the blade bounces right off and staggers McKatana who stumbles backwards for a few steps.
"YOUR PATHETIC SWORD CAN NOT MAKE A DENT IN SUPERIOR GERMAN ROBOTICS!" [1 vs. 5+2+2] Mecha-Hitler throws a hooking punch at McKatana; the punch is slow and wild allowing the Samurai to easily dodge out of the way while the force of the attack sends the Fuhrer forward, crashing into a shelf of pots.
Crusty Pete looks up from his meal of paint to see all the people in Hoes & Ditches, fighting, including Mecha-Hitler. Pete Grimaces, if there's one thing he hated more than lotion, it was Nazis,
especially robot Nazis. He drops the paint can on the floor, its remaining yellow contents spilling out, as the big man picks up a nearby sledgehammer. He walks over to the fighting just in time to watch Mecha-Hitler stumble into a bunch of pots which shatter against his metal body.
"YE GUD-DARMED NAZIS! I'LL KEEL YOU!!!" Mecha-Hitler spins around to see a messy person, as big as him, bringing a sledgehammer down on his skull. [2 vs. 8] Hitler jukes to the side, sending Crusty Pete's hammer smashing into the ground. Seeing what kind of individual Crusty Pete was, Hitler was now happy that the scientists who recreated him could not figure out how to give him a sense of smell. [9 vs. 8-2] Hitler hook punches again, this time with much more discipline, and sends his metal fist crashing into Pete's left elbow. Crusty Pete howls in pain and drops the Sledgehammer, clutching his wound with his other hand.
"SUNUVA' BITCH, RIGHT IN THE FUNNY BONE!!!"
Cthulu Dundee sneaks into Ditches & Hoes with a small camera crew, his eyes lighting up as he sees fighting underway. "Crikey, we've got a special show today."
The Road Warrior rides his motorcycle straight for the entrance to Toyland, "WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY!"
Skullduggery Pleasant is also driving straight for Toyland, and even ends up driving directly next to The Road Warrior.
