Eh, why not, similar enough to previous volcano embark I did for sleeper.

I assume you want for 43.05. (Geography is same as 43.03 but history differs.)

excellent, exactly what i was looking for! thanks so much!

Hey, the people of this thread should be interested in some temperature parameter science I did.

You can see more at my thread here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=168502.0

Just thought it was big enough it deserved its own thread. Cheers!

Hey here's a neat gen.

In the NE corner there is a volcano where you can embark with a mirthful volcano, haunted taiga, and some neutral heavy forest. There's an evil cloud that comes from the evil area, not sure what it does yet.

With the current settings it comes with a lot of gold and hematite, but no flux. Also has lots of sand.

If it is a general question - df43.03+ parameters used in df44.xx versions of df generate worlds that have the same geography but different biomes, civilizations and histories, as far as I have seen and others have confirmed, at least up until df44.05.

If you refer to the above post, I have no idea since the poster does not df mention version.  ::)

Is there a somewhat reliable way to get an embark with cassiterite?
I am mostly looking for an embark without any iron bearing ore, which would make me go for bronze armour as main equipment for my army.
Bismuthinite and gold would be a really neat plus, but are not required.

Ores aside, I am looking for a non-evil 4x4 embark with a vulcano, sand and a river of any sort.
Goblins, elves, humans and of course dwarves should be in range to visit, and at least two biomes would be nice.
Preferably a tropical grassland / savanna / shrubland (one of those) and something else.
Bonus points for hyenas and giant cave toads.

Playing version 44.05 right now.
If someone has a suitable embark, that would be great.
But I am also thankful for tips regarding the ore distribution.
The biome diversity and vulcanism I have mostly locked down with the world generation, I think.

The world I generated as an example for "get volcanoes in low altitudes" has a few locations that meet your basic criteria..

The big issue is going to be getting the right metal ores in a high volcanism embark. You are going to need to pump max subregions up pretty high so that the granularity on the volcanic/non-volcanic regions is very tight. That will also increase your chances of having multiple biomes on your small (4x4) embark.

Thanks a bunch for your reply, wierd.
So the trouble will be to get a part of the embark with high volcanism for the volcano, but the other part would need to have rather low volcanism for the right stone layers to spawn?

Would it help if I set the X/Y variance for volcanism high, the mesh size to 16x16 and the weighted range to something like 10/1/1/1/10? That should, if I understand how this works correctly, enable very high volcanism tiles next to very low ones. Maybe?
The max number of subregions is already at maximum in my world generation, to allow a wide number of small tropical grassland biomes bordering other kinds of environment. So that should not be an issue.

Would it help to set mineral scarcity high to get a reduced number of metals? Or would that not only lower the chance for iron bearing ores, but also cassiterite and gold?
On another note, your mention of volcanism lead me to layers in the wiki, which in return made me stumble upon the alluvial layer - which sounds exactly like what I might want, copper aside.
Could a higher erosion cycle count (did not touch that so far) help generating those?

Firstly, are you people aware that this is the cookbook thread for the previous DF arc, not the current one (there is a newer thread)?

A high mineral scarcity leads to all minerals being scarce, not just iron.

Alluvial layers are odd: they do not have any definition, but are presumably sort of emergent from other factors, and there is nothing I know of that says "this is an alluvial layer", but you have to infer that from the presence of things that only appear in alluvial layers. As far as I've seen, I've only found them under oceans (but my manual search has been biased towards searching under oceans). In principle alluvial layers ought to appear under rivers I believe, but rivers are not associated with geo biomes, but rather appear inside whatever biome (and geo biome) they pass through, so DF has no way of producing that. If this is correct, erosion would not help in generating alluvial layers.

No, actually, I wasn't. I found the 44.02+ one (here), though, thank you for mentioning it. I haven't been around in a while, I don't tend to delve very deep to find posts, and it wasn't started by vjek, so I missed it. :)

Vjek has been away for a fairly long time, unfortunately, only making brief visits, so the world gen support isn't as good as it once was.

Yeah, I still check daily, and given the recent posts and threads, it's on my list to run some non-reject cross-platform tests between 43.03+ and 44.05+.

I should have time this weekend, I'll see what I can do to post results next week.  I was seriously bummed about all the time & effort I put into embarks when dropbox stopped allowing image hosting/linking without $$$.  So, I guess I'll use imgur for now.

Use postimages.org

Much better than imgur. (imgur has a no-hotlink rule in their TOS, no such thing on postimages)

Yay, for the much awaited reemergence!  8)  I'll second the option of postimage.org.

It might be worth looking at different bitness as well as cross-plateform for worldgen reproducibility.  Seems there can be issues sometimes.   http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=10420  (Guessing the divergence takes place at the cave placement step of worldgen, with some changes coming to the kobolds in 44.)
