Hmm, no caravan.
« on: October 12, 2007, 06:32:00 am »

I rolled up a new world and started a new game, but I didn't change the location from default. Forgot to take a look at the menu.

It's Spring and the first caravan hasn't shown up yet - fortunately we hit the river early so I got a Nile farm in the farm room I was digging out. Happy accident, really.

It's possible the first location might have been no-trade, but it's not frozen over most of the year and there are a lot of trees outside. I'd like to be sure one way or the other, which brings me to the question:

Is there some way to see the location information for your fortress once you're building it, or at least which races will trade with it?

If not, I'll just look forward to a 9-dwarf challenge, and hope nobody gets moody for star sapphires or something.

save the game, back it up, abandon the fort and check then load the backup.

and you won't get moods with only 9 dwarves. You need 20 dwarves before you start getting moods.

Yep, the default was no trade with dwarves, humans, or elves.

That's odd. It'll teach me not to ignore the map, at least.

Yeah, it seems fairly common to have a small valley imbedded in a mountain range, or a mountain range sealing off an area of the map.

Glaciers do this too, but it's less likely to find a temperate map on the other side of a glacier :P

I think you are mistaken, you won't get moods until you have at least 20 dwarves. I've played a fort with only 7 dwarves (no-trade glacier, 7 + smith, -1 washed into the river) for many, many years and never saw a single mood.
