Dwarven Titles
« on: April 06, 2008, 04:48:00 pm »

Hello everyone. Been lurking the forums for about a year now but never really got up to registering until today. Before I begin I just wanted to say hello and thank everyone for making this board such a wonderful place to waste time at work, and also for being so helpful on the myriad of topics that I've seen posted.   :)

On to the beef.

My question concerns one of my dwarves who somehow gained a title. I do not know how, but my dwarf is now known as Kikrost Tombsvise, The Divine Law of xxxx (can't see the last word   :( )

Seeing as how I've never seen this before either in game, or any information about it posted on the boards, I figured I'd see if anyone else has seen this happen?

Either way, I think it is super cool that my dwarf is known as the divine law of something, regardless of what it is!

Edit: Wanted to add the movie of the battle that gave my dwarf the title. Seems to happen after she kills one of the invading goblin "guards".

Tusung means conjure (according to the raws anyway), so maybe he's the divine law of conjuring or somesuch?

That would actually be cool.  I was expecting an anticlimax like "the divine law of goblets" or something.

Yes, it does mean conjuring. Sometime after my post I changed her name and job title to "-" so it would display more of her name.

My best soldier in my fort has killed upwards of about 50-60 goblins, countless camels kobolds and even once a titan, and yet she still has no title or elongated name whatsoever. Whats up with that!?

For the purposes of getting a title, I wonder if a kill only counts if you deal the final blow.

Even if that were the case, my legendary sword girl should have a name that is a mile in length.

I thought it had something to do with killing an important goblin.  One of the flashing ones.

I got three titled dwarves from wiping out a goblin tower.  That would fit well with the idea of it being that you kill something flashy -- demon, high priest, and elite crossbow.  Then I got a fourth title dwarf: the sheriff, who took down a few berserkers during the tantrum storm.

Yes it was very strange because i had another dwarf, much less qualified and much worse in combat, that DID have a fairly large title (4 or 5 words before his last name) he wasn't killing anything that my legendary swordsdwarf wasn't. Very peculiar.

I did, however, change the -title- of my legendary warrior, so that her profession was no longer "champion". I changed it so her name read so-and-so, Badass. That may have affected the natural progression of dwarven titles that she would have otherwise experienced.

Pretty sure they have to kill something ( or someone ) who has killed another ( be it dwarf, human elf or animal ) and gained a name. This doesn't show for things that already have names but it does count still, and so killing them ( or a number of them, i'm not quite sure ) will infer a title.
