After some time (3 mins IRL) Korgoth was already legendary Knapper, Archer and Thrower ! Hoo the glorious feeling ! It was the first skills of many to master.
o.o
You got more legendary skills on 1 dwarf in short order than I have put together across my longest-term fort dwarves.

When I do a dragon vs dragon battle in arena, I don't know how to do anything and get slaughtered in short order :p, but clearly there's something to it.

As for your infection problem, it might be a bigger problem than infections usually are with the "Very Low Disease Resistance" granted him.

Proficent Student probably came from the library - iirc reading books grants both reader and student exp (though no skill in book topic, unintuitively).

I think a bit of Armok-sent Dfhackery would be good form to heal your infections.

Farm climbing: jump while next to a climbable structure and grab at the wall/tree while in flight. Works to laboriously build climber in the arena, at zero risk.

I'd strongly suggest you train crutch walker in adventure mode - here, you can do it without crippling your dwarf (which would probably require massive hurt-scumming until you end up with a random roll that takes out exactly one leg without killing/disabling other limbs) and in a matter of days vs. years. If you can't find a crutch, you can build your own in an adventurer carpenter shop.

My most recent looks at libraries suggest training scholar skills is gonna be supremely boring; skill gain through pondering and discussing is painfully slow, feels like well under a thousand xp _total_ per year (so >100 years to max the eight skills that are presumably scholar-only). Perhaps there are other paths towards scholarly skill gain - teacher/student couplings maybe?

Do some traits/personality, like curious about the world, have bonus xp gain towards scholarly skills?

I though you had to be one-legged, even in adventure mode ?
If not, I'm definitely crafting a ¤birch crutch¤ and using it !
Behold Korgoth... The crutched Bard in training !

This is why I'll make scholar skills at the very end :p

Non-modding solution according to that article would be to train the skills to Legendary +6, though that would take over twice as much exp (though not nearly so much time, thanks to macros and idle-planning).

Climbing is basically impossible to train. To train it you have to jump into a potentially climbable wall and try to grab onto it. Even if you manage to find some absolute perfect spot where you can keep jumping back and forth over a chasm through a tree or something, the amount of skill gained per attempt is terribly low, and it only even gives you any skill if you fail. Successful grabs also makes it something that can't be macroed, and as your skill increases you'll get successful grabs more and more often, to where I actually think it might just take many full hours of manual jumping back and forth to get to legendary. If I were doing this challenge, I would have made my adventurer a demigod and started with grand master climbing to save time on that.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

I'm not too sure about gain slowing down, at least in fort mode - safe daycare experiment had combined swimming+climbing training result in the ratio between the two increasing towards climbing as climbing skill increased.

Log 4 - Macros ! Macros everywhere !

Before moving on to bard skills, it is time to end these boring/brainless farming skills.
They are : Carpenter, Climber, Crutch-walker and Bone Carver.

Carpenter :
I chopped down roughly 30 trees. Grabbed all the wood (600+ logs), and created a carpenter WS.
Dropped all the logs in the WS (a conveniently written macro helped dropping it all fast).
Then, Korgoth crafted more wooden chairs than even the elves could have room for.
Once again, macro power allowed Carpenter mastery in a matter of minutes.

I also made a ¤crutch¤ !

As Larix mentionned, it is indeed possible to equip the crutch without being crippled in adv. mode, and experience is gained that way.
Korgoth is very slow at first. With 0.333 speed... And every step gives 1 exp ! 18.000 steps before Legendary... Should've started this skill before !

Climber :
After some thinking, I found an easy way to train Climber.
Two things to note :
- You gain 10 exp after attempting to grab a wall while in the air, no matter if you succeed or not.
- You can jump when you are climbing (and jumping makes you be in the air, see where I'm going ?).

So, there goes an easy cycle to reliably train the skill.
Spoiler: Climber power training (click to show/hide)

DF macros were a little slow here, so I once again used AutoHotKey to help speed things up !
Spoiler: AutoHotKey script (click to show/hide)
Basically, everytime I press *, Korgoth jumps like a maniac back and forth (as shown above), attempting to grab the walls, 10 times in a row.
Each key press grants him 200 exp in climber.

Time spent on this skill : 15 minutes of script testing / doc reading + 4 minutes of * pressing.
Legendary Climber done !

Bone-Carver :
Went to the wilderness, and murdered all the animals I could find. Hippos, Camels, Crocodiles...
Converted all their bones to beautiful rings that Korgoth equipped on his toes and fingers.
Macro-ed my way through once again, because hitting "x {right} {down} {enter} {down} {enter} {enter}" is too painful.

Korgoth is now wearing a whooping 400 bones rings (despite the wiki saying the maximum is 220, Korgoth gives no shit), and has mastered Bone-Carving.

Crutch-Walker :
Do I really have to explain how Korgoth mastered it ?
Macro is the word, fellow dwarves, you guessed it !
And walking with a crutch is how you (obviously) master Crutch-walker.
Seriously, don't put a 9000 loop. Your adventurer would die of thirst before its end... At best, he would loose "Focused" and not gain any exp.

Question: What attributes did your climbing training increase? Wiki is unverified on this.

I wonder if needing to be focused for exp applies to fort mode as well.

Hard to tell.
Korgoth was already superdwarven in many.
I took screenshots of his attrs both before and after climber training. There was no differences at all.

Wiki suggests intuition - which you had set to average initially, and was probably trained with observer at least.

Still, at the very least less than 10 attributes per 20k exp....Better to be avoided, I guess.
