Colocation Challenge!
« on: October 06, 2007, 07:10:00 pm »

With the new version coming up, one thing in particular strikes me as interesting - the ability to base your fortress anywhere.

Here's the challenge. Well, not much of a challenge... You must build your fortress exactly on a preexisting dwarven fortress, or as close as you can.

That's it.

Well, you must also build your fortress so that there is free passage between yours and the preexisting one.

That's it.

Just... do it. And watch the mayhem. And report the mishaps here.   :)

Do it on the same fortress you left from.

Now make it a succession game. And force everyone to roleplay really well.

Well... if you could know where you left from, I guess. Maybe your a reading for how far you are from your starting point when you select your location?

I wonder if you could re-settle an abandoned fortress? Would it work like reclaim mode?

If so, I wonder if the dwarven city you settle at would also act like a reclaim, since they're part of the same civ. Then you could start with a bunch of tunnels dug out and a bunch of dwarves ready to do your bidding.

"That's everything we need, let's set out and strike the earth!"
"On second thought, let's just stay here and take over the capital."

"Yes, we, traders from Goldmountains, the Dwarven capital, are now embarking on our long and perilous journey to Diamondtowers, our sister-fortress!"
"Fare well!"
*The traders walk outside and across a 10-foot wide canyon*
"After a long journey, we have arrived!"
"Oh, stop being overdramatic, I can still see you."

Or settle on top of an elven settlement, wall them all off, and then release captured goblins and elephants into the elf pit.

I think just about any civilization would be absolutely hostile to settlers on (or under) their land.  Good luck, you'd be at war with the elves from the moment you started building a wall, maybe even beforehand.

(It WILL be fun showing up at a goblin lair, running up to the wall and digging wildly to get underground and put up a door before they attack.  Even more fun if they take their time and fortify the area around your door to cut you off...or try to drown you out...or mine from their fortress into yours...etc.)

It would be fun with the 3D engine to build a fortress in 2D (only one floor), and then build another 2D fortress above that. And another above that. And so on.

I fully intend to colocate with a human capital, undermine their castle, leave a few supports, and then drop the whole thing once the pit is sufficiently deep.

I also want to try building in a plains or forest and simulate being human, making a castle aboveground, farming outdoors, etc. So many possibilities...

I want to build a fortress under an undead ruin. Then I can capture zombies and use them for my zombie pits.

Mm, zombies are always good fun. Plus you get free loot from all the crafts lying around.

I doubt it will e possible in the next version but i plan to settle next to a ruin and trap the hell out of the path to it. Every wave of zombies/skeletons that walk into my cage traps are dumped in special crafted cages and used as trade currency. I will find an exploit to link mobile cages to levers and when i spread enough zombies across the world, i pull the lever and release them all.

And i'm going to star a fort on the top left corner of the world, build a quantum stockpile and stripmine it. Then i start another on the square next to that and do the same. Then i use my adventurer to ship the goods into my old fort and again, and again and again etc... So in the end, an entire world of resource is positioned in a small pit and nobody other then me has access.

Except for the Zombie Whales, which will have you surrounded.
