Okay, I'm stupid: how do I build an anvil?

Or is it something that can only be obtained from traders?  I mean, I've got one up and running in my magma forge; I'd like to make more so I can really get production going.  But I can't seem to find the option...

As long as you have one, you can make more.  It should be under the "miscellaneous," or maybe the "furniture" menus at the forge.  You have to have the right kind of metal to make one, though - iron or steel.

The Drums of Chaos present: how to make an anvil.

1. Build a trade depot.
2. When merchants arrive, move broker to depot.
3. Enter trade screen, select any anvils visible, and seize them.
4. ????
5. Profit!

Gee, forgive me for thinking Dwarf Mode Discussion *might* be appropriate -- granted, I should've gone for Gameplay Questions, but y'know, it fits in either.

(And I note you didn't answer the question.)

As far as seizing it goes, I was specifically looking for an option that doesn't involve merchants, as the current fort is heavy on goblin seiges (six so far) and light on traders - elves and the dwarf caravan only so far, and the dwarves haven't *brought* an anvil the last three times they came, even though I've requested it.  Plus, it's about 50/50 whether they path right through the gobbos who infest my fort.

I've got tons of iron and a few bars of steel; going through every menu option I can find in the Magma Forge doesn't show an anvil as a choice that I can see.  Nor is it listed on the wiki under "Magma Forge" or "Anvil"; anyone know the key combo?

It's under "Other Objects."  It should be the top-most choice for iron and steel.

As a bonus, you can see what types of material you can make the anvil out of.

(Still not seeing it on the menu when I try to go through the workshop, but Manager screen queues it up just fine.)
