New Demo Man *me*

I will also be reviewing slaves to (me), God of BLOOD, alongside Alanor. I hope that I can provide useful tips along the way.

I still have a copy of Lball here.. Really fast and odd to look at 320x240 or 320x200 or whatever it was..

About Armok: Graphics Wise:
I like the deformed mesh terrain, but it seems to pop up and indent when more detailed.. more levels of indentation / better representation of triangles / non-visible terrain should not be graphically mapped...

Speed wise:
I'm getting 35-38 FPS full screen with:
Athlon 1.4 /384 /GF2MX 400

Crash Wise:
Only one crash so far, cause unknown

Hmmm...

In the end, the game shouldn't be this slow, and those refinements shouldn't be necessary.  They are visible because they are nearby -- if I made them farther away, it would go too slow.  I don't know what's wrong yet.  The graphics aren't really complicated at all by modern standards, so it should be moving fast.  I just need to shift through the Open GL nonsense some more.

Yea I am sure that in time we will figure out some optimizations that will make it get more like 100 fps rather than the lower side that we are getting now..
Its all a question of knowing how to work the optimizations into the code...
It takes a real graphics FREAK to even know what some of the stuff is that goes on in the 3D stuff...

In any case.. The graphics arnt a major priority in my oppinion (except that it needs to be playable)  The good stuff Tarn is working on now is what I am eager to get..
healing!!!! finally!

And not only that.. Orcs will have the right number of limbs, and fingers..
hehe

wow
my first response..
hehe
well i have this sorta asteroids game that is like 80% done sorta
its really a prelude to a space fighter type game.. but the asteroids were an idea for a quick little thing to finish
i have some more ideas for after that.. and hopefully i will DO somethign soon and even have a forum of my own for youguys to give me some ideas :-)
school has gotten in the way of me working on stuff lately.. sound is my next big project part.. then maybe some multiplayer work.. but i hope to have a toy out before that
I do have a few ideas that I am curious what people think..
my plans include these *BASIC* ideas:

A space combat game
(top view, lots of configurable ships, multiplayer? (massive multiplayer? :-)

A tactical combat game.. sorta like an upgrade to that old X-com game.. (which I LOVE) :-) adding on to some of the ideas and extrapolating on it sorta in the theme of Bay 12 games.. ie quality in details.. covering more bases...

a battle game.. the basis is sorta like that old game MASTERS OF MAGIC (awesome!!!)
its basically a combination of hte strategic game like civilizaiton/masters of orion sort of thing.. except with real time combat for the battles.. so you get all kinds of good stuff.. research, upgrading (experienced) units, an element of real time tactical combat..

If any of you would like to see different things more.. i might be more inclined to work on that sort of thing..

A tactical combat game would rule if you had 10% of the details that are going to be an Armok!  You could have a bunch of different scenerios, like a corporate war, or just a mercenary team, etc.

I am also a big fan of the space combat game!  Have you ever played Cosmic Rift?  I'd want to do missions and get money to get a better ship, like in Privater (another great game).

hehe
mercs and such.. i like that..
varoius different funding positions to run your operation :-)
hehe

the space game has been somethign we has been through countless iterations (mostly written by Tarn) and a lot of ideas have gone into it.. but what you mensioned is basically what i would be going for..
i love the aspects of earn/research/fight
so..
definetly new technologies.. and ship upgrading.. LOTS of ship upgrading
hehe
right now you can fly around and shoot asteroids
when that is done enough to really be a *game* then i will probibly show it off some..
there are a lot of things to work on behind the scenes.. i havent even had time to look at the sound stuff much.. which is my next step.. but i have looked at both directx and OpenAL as possible choices..
basicaly it depends whats easier in the end..
for now.. many of my decisions will be run by such. :-)

feel free to write ideas! :-)

Well, you'd best get to work and make a forum and a bay 12 games page too!
Then I'll provide my expert advise!

But I really am interested in seeing what will come of your space combat game!  The squad of people would only really interest me if you could just "cut loose" and attack the city or whatever, until your men all die...  Mmmmm...  Carnage...
