Let's Make a Weird Fantasy Setting!
« on: May 07, 2016, 11:15:25 pm »

Let's Make a Weird Fantasy Setting! When I say weird I mean that it's completely unconventional, if you want a God of Jelly Rolls and Lazer Beams to exist alongside Hordes of Sentient Truffles as they battle for freedom against the Two-Headed Invaders, Go Ahead. It doesn't have to follow any existing thing at all, and I'd prefer if it didn't. Sound Fun? First let's lay down some ground rules to keep things Civil.

READ THESE FIRST

1.)Only one addition can be made per post.
2.)A Poster cannot double-post unless the Thread has been inactive to at least 24 Hours.
3.)No addition may interfere with another addition
4.)An addition may not be erased unless a vast majority wishes it.
5.)No Time-Travel, it makes things very tricky.
6.)At least a modicum of Fluff Text goes a Long Way.
7.)No Humans, I know that everyone just loves Hairless Monkeys, but that's far too Mainstream for this.
 8.)Don't turn this into a Play-By-Post God-Game, This is a Play-By-Post Setting Creation Game.
9.)Ardent Debater is not the GM, the Forum is.
10.)Keep it Safe For Work, for Armok's Sake.
11.)Don't be Meta, or Break the Fourth Wall.
12.)Don't make Subtle References, Please Keep it original.
13.)Don't change everything instantaneously with one Post, keep any Historical Changes slow and steady, so everyone has a Say.
14.)Multiple Side-Dimensions are cool, making them the Primary Focus isn't.
15.)Don't Undo what another Poster has Added without Good Reason.

SO IT BEGINS...

In the Very Beginning, there was nothing, until one Day, the Great Ones created a Vast, nearly indestructible Sphere, they placed a Sun and a Basic Atmosphere within it, outside of the Sphere lies a Sea of Eternal Entropy and Void, if the Sphere was ever Broken, Total Destruction would be upon the Sphere and all who dwell within it.

One of the great ones loved the sight of the sun so much she touched it and melted as she writhed in pain.  Her body turned into a great sentient, violent and insane ocean of blood which coats the inside of the sphere several miles deep, fleeing from the sun which melted her.

The Sounds of her Agony cracked the inside of the Sphere, creating the First Chasms, Valleys, and Mountains. When the Great One fell, such was the force of her Rage she created a massive Crater the length of Four Earths, and Five Earths Deep. From her shattered bones came the first Creatures, small worm-like aquatic beings that writhe within the Ocean, causing much Pain to the Former Great One.

As the Fallen One cried and raged and cursed, her children, the aquatic creatures who were born in her blood, knew fear for the first time.  Not comprehending the nature of the world around them, or the reason for their mother's pain, the Whimpering Worms descended to the deepest bowels of the Fallen One, desperate to escape her wrathful cry.  There, they waited, huddled in darkness, growing in number, but not in boldness.

Another Great One, having assisted firsthand to this holy mess, couldn't help but crack up at the Fallen's foolishness.
His laugh was so Divine it permeated the Creatures, and thus they knew of Humor.
Every time the Sun illuminated the Blood Sea, the Great One was reminded of the torment of the Fallen, unleashing another roaring laughter.

Thus every morning, a phenomenon known as the Sun Laugh was born. Every day now begins with the Sun Laugh.

The Sun Laugh created the Second Creatures: Bright, flimsy things of light and gossamer. They became known as the Feylings and they knew no fear nor pain.

The Great Ones, seeing that the Blood Sea's Rage would one Day overwhelm the Sphere, placed a Curse upon the Blood Sea in order to prevent the Total Destruction of the Sphere. The Curse bound the Blood Sea to the Crater that it formed, so that it would never be able to rampage across the Sphere in a vast flood, instead, remaining stationary within the Crater, simmering in Hatred. Such was the Blood Sea's wrath, it managed to unleash vast storms of Blood and Wind upon the Sphere near to it's Crater. The Blood Sea only has the Power to do so roughly once every few thousand days, and then only for a few dozen at a time. This phenomenon is called, the Red Hurricane Season.

A foolish Feyling secretly drank from the Blood Sea, its skin turned bloodred and claws began growing. It was Feyling no more, it brought more to drink from the Blood Sea. They became known as the Ajin controlled by Melted One their hatred for the sun has caused them to only come out when the Sun is gone.

Feeling amused by the sudden turn of events, the Great Laughing One decided to spice things up.
He descended upon the Feylings, granting them power and magic : the Joke Magic, fueled by Humor and Fun, from which spells could be cast if an appropriate pun or joke was thrown at the right moment.
He then descended upon the Ajin, for he believed everyone deserved to get some fun.
He granted them the Snark Magic, a magic fueled by Sarcasm and Snarkiness, from which spells could be cast if a truly nasty joke/pun/remark was thrown at the right moment.

He then laughed, for it was good.

Entropy was angry. It could not breach the sphere. It raged and raged, and eventually came up with a solution. Although it could not break the sphere, a dimensional bypass could potentially partially bypass it... and thus, the Cycle of Pain was born. Every thousand years, Entropy would manifest enough intelligence to preform a dimensional bypass on the sphere and release a powerful creature of some kind(somewhat randomly formed) within the sphere, immune to the power of the Great Ones, but vulnerable to mortal weaponry and tactics. Somewhat.

The Great Ones looked upon the Sphere and apart from the Corrupted Blood Sea, and they knew that the Sphere was barren and lifeless. One of the Great Ones stretched out his Hands, and from his Will came the First Clouds, and from them, the First Rain. Another Great One, finding inspiration in the Blood Worms, shaped the Rock, forming the First Earthworms, they were the First Natural Beings. As they consumed the Hard, Cold Earth they defecated, and from their defecation came the Soil. As the Eons passed, some of the Earthworms ceased wandering and surfaced, being nourished by the Sun's Light. One of the Great Ones waved her Hand and the Earthworms grew vast, and their skin became Solid, much like the Bones of the Fallen Great One. The new Beings dug tendrils deep within the Soil and stretched membranes up to the Heavens, soaking up the Light. These were the First Trees.

another made new trees and planted a great forest, in this forest he warped gravity and space, creating the trickster forest.

The Trickster Forest warped all that came within it, and it's form was never constant and always shifting in new, incomprehensible ways. The Great One who created the Trickster Forest enjoyed it deeply, as it grew across the Sphere he laughed in great mirth. One Day, he grew bored, and decided to go into his Trickster Forest to leisurely wander amongst it's Warped Trees. The Great One had much fun at first, and was happy, after a while he grew lonely and tried to find his way back out, but his Path was gone and only twisted Vines remained. He merely chuckled and tried to simply find another Path, but this proved difficult for him and he had no luck. As the Days wore on he began to grow worried that he might never get out, and he was beginning to get quite hungry indeed. The Great One couldn't find a way out of his own Creation and he slowly began to grow Mad with Terror, Soon the poor, poor Planter couldn't tell up from down or left from right.

Without any Food or Light to sustain himself the Great One began to Fade away, into his own Creation, and the other Great Ones never heard from him again. Mortal Legend says that a Lost Demon Haunts the Trickster Forest. And that he consumes the Souls of all who go within the Trees to sustain himself, and that sometimes, one standing near the edge of the Shifting Trees can hear his Agonized Cries of Grief, but that's simply ridiculous, only a few steps into the Forest couldn't hurt anyone. It's surely just a common folktale.

As the Feylings and Ajin basked in their new and humorous power, they became aware of each other's existence.  Formerly the Feylings had thought themselves alone, and in their blood-filled haze, the Ajin had forgotten their beginning.  Flimsy and light, crimson and bloated, the two opposites gazed at each other with fear and fascination from every opposing cliff, hill, tree and outcropping.

As days passed, the two races moved closer to each other's territory, inch by inch.  Until one day, a Feyling brushed up against a distracted Ajin.  The Feyling immediately spoke a quip, one which made the Ajin laugh.  To the Feyling's horror, the Ajin promptly dropped dead.  Thus the first Murder was performed.

Tainted and troubled by the idea of Murder, the Feyling returned to his kin and told them of the tale. Two camps appeared : those who laughed and those who screamed in horror. Shocked by the reactions of his laughing kin, the Feyling lamented to the Sun.
All he got was a good laugh to the face, for the Great Laughing One cracked up hearing this.

But the Feyling didn't find this funny. For Murder had awakened him to the dangerous nature of Joke Magic. Repulsed by the Sun, himself and his powers, he gathered his like-minded brothers and sisters.

Together they fled in a place where none would be harmed by their jokes and formed a new society. In this new society, their first laws were to restrict the use of jokes and forbid what they would call Black Humor. They shunned away from the Sun, and turned to the Night, symbol of silence and virtue.

They later would become known as the Unfunnies, for they were always cold and stoic.
