Tower caps again
« on: April 03, 2008, 10:55:00 pm »

I have found an underground pool in my current fort, and it is full of Lizardmen.  So I am wondering if my tower cap farm has to be next to the underground pool, or if I can make any area muddy and get tower caps to grow?

As a side note, do I need to haul all the stone left from excavating the site of the future tree farm out of the way before the tower caps can grow?

Any muddy ground will work as long as its underground, as well as some soil. Yes, rocks will have to be moved.

Someone needs to find a way to make any muddy underground grow tower caps.

I could make so many wooden bolts!

If someone can figure out what flag gets set in memory when you find an underground river or lake, it might be easy to mod a utility to turn tower caps on or off.  I have a hunch that it'd be just like enabling magma building, but I'm talking largely out of my ass.

I really wish we had tower cap seeds.  Then we would NEVER need to go outside, EVER.  Hell, that'd be quite good actually.  Designate a muddy area as an underground forest, and people will collect spores from the tower caps and spread them around.

Is it just me or is "Do towercaps grow anywhere" the most commonly asked question on the forum?

That's because its a feature everybody really wants.

Dwarves aren't meant to go outside, they are supposed to stay in their caves n crap, and basically be a self sufficient society.

I think Toady mentioned tower cap seeds or something being implemented at some point, so that should be cool.

Yeah, orchards and tree-farming are on the list.

Thank you very much!

I foresee that the next migrant wave will all be stone haulers

What? Again?

I mean, they kind of are. My point is that I want tower caps because I hate having to rely on the sun to grow trees.

I rather have the "stack of bones" build material, that can be used for anything wood is being used for now (and some of the stone stuff).  ;)

Problem you run into with that is people building walls made of one turtle bone or char bone each.  And that's just not right.
