Have you ever heard of the
Metamorphica? Or of
deadEarth?One's a rather large document/book thing containing 1000 "mutations", each of which is different. From super strength to psionic powers, the Metamorphica is a wonderful resource for superhumans/mutants/whatnot in forum games or tabletop games or what have you.
The other is a defunct(but available under the Creative Commons license, as far as I know) role playing game system set in a post apocalyptic world. It's notable for-you guessed it- its mutations. Similar to the Metamorphica, deadEarth has a rather large number(1000 in the main book, more in supplements) of "mutations" that change the characters that they are applied to in various ways.
Unlike the Metamorphica, some of those mutations are so nasty/confusing/changing of other mutations/insane that character creation in deadEarth is its own minigame. As in, your character can die, become useless, or basically become a demigod in character mutation. All at random.
Actually, someone(maybe me) should run a deadEarth game here. It's bloody perfect for Bay 12.
But you know what I thought when I read over these two sources? To summarize, one word: Insufficient. In two words: Not enough. In three words: I need more.
So I set a goal of ten thousand five hundred mutations for my own list of mutations.
It's probably worth noting that coming up with ten thousand five hundred mutations all on your lonesome is a difficult task.
Oh look, a community of semi-insane forum gamers with overactive imaginations!
So I came here, because there was no way I was going to come up with 10500 mutations all on my own.
~~~
So that's where you come in. You(the members of Bay 12) are hopefully going to, in aggregate, submit 10500 mutations, physical/body changing, mental/supernatural/psionic/arcane, meta, mutations.
Why 10500 mutations? Because 1000 wasn't enough, and 10000 would have made proportions awkward.
~~~
Simple guidlines:
Half of all mutations you submit should be positive or neutral. Half of all mutations you submit should be negative or neutral.
Half of all mutations you submit should be physical/body changing. Half of all mutations you submit should be mental/supernatural/psionic/arcane.
Balance your submissions: less powerful/potent mutations should be more common than less powerful/potent mutations.
Do not submit meta mutations until after the first 10000 mutations, at which point the remaining mutations to be submitted should be meta-mutations: mutations that only affect other mutations rather than affecting the mutant/player directly.
All mutations should not be tied into a specific game system, and should be useable(with some adaptation) by any role-playing game system, from roll to dodge to dungeons and dragons.
Physical:
#-4: Superhuman Strength:
You have gained a ridiculous increase in strength. Roll 1d4:
1. Your strength has doubled.
2. Your strength has tripled.
3. Your strength has increased fivefold.
4. Your strength increase is randomly determined throughout the week: at the start of each day, roll 1d3 on this chart and apply the result to your character for the remainder of the day.
#-3: Decapitation:
Your head explodes. Immediately. You have most likely died.
Mental:
#-2: Telekinesis:
You can move objects using your mind and your willpower. To determine the extent of this power, roll 1d4 twice, once on the first table and once on the second table.
1. You can move as much as you can physically.
2. You can move twice as much as you can physically.
3. You can move eight times as much as you can physically.
4. You can move anything, so long as your will is strong enough. If your will isn't strong enough, your head might explode.
1. You can move anything within a hundred foot radius of yourself.
2. You can move anything within a thousand feet of yourself.
3. You can move anything within a mile of yourself.
4. You have no max range, but note that trying to move anything exceptionally far away from you without the necessary willpower may cause your head to splode.
#-1: Apathy:
You are very, very lazy. To preform any action that would have you physically move, you must exert your will. This gets more difficult the more you have tried to do so.
Meta:
#0: Booster Pack:
You gain 1d6 mutations, chosen at random.

After the goal is reached, there will be much celebration and I will likely run a game called Humans 2.0 using the list.
