Road to Civilization [SG]
« on: May 03, 2016, 01:40:33 pm »

The Mystic civilization was one for the books long ago. They evolved from spiritual and mental energies that flowed in ethereal dimensions, eventually developing a form and sapience. Through the ages, they created a society that rivalled the most legendary of species, but a mysterious and unknown force threatened to destroy all which they held dear, and wipe them off of the universal blackboard. Fleeing their home, they sought refuge elsewhere. With sore egos and minds shook by uncertainty, they spread across the Expanse, hoping that their second chance would not go in vain. Can they make it? Will they return to their former glory? Or will they be exterminated by their own incompetence, with only the annals to tell their story?

I wanna make a suggestion, but I'm not even entirely sure if we are corporeal and exist in a physical space, or if we're retreating into some sort of abstract realm of energy (mostly confused by what the "Expanse" is).

The Expanse is another word for universe/multiverse. You know how space is assumed to be infinite? The word 'Expanse' is more indicative of that than blankverse. Verse implies finiteness. Limitation. As for where you exist, yes, you're in a corporeal location. Another world, to be exact. This world . . .

a) is full of many ruins and relics, with mystery and opportunities in abundance.
b) a lush and fertile world with many species of its own, with some yet to be discovered.
c) Write in.

a/c This world is a barren wasteland of sand and stone. This intimidating exterior will help the Mystics evade any who seek them. But beneath the surface lie tunnels and caves, some natural and others echoes of civilizations past.

I'm not sure what a/c means, but I like it. If no more votes in a couple hours Year Zero will commence! Semi-underground civilization. Looks like they'll be like the Bedouin or something with a society that dwells in the desert. Nice choice.

Edit: You were saying a-c, as if your idea is a fusion of all three -- which it kind of is. I have failed.

You just post a suggestion and wait for the votes.

YEAR 00

The tribe comes upon a world. A world that is as composed of an intimidating mix of sand and stone, with large oases scattered about. One thing is certain: the entire world is not the same as what you see, and your tribe is eager to explore and expand. Now, it is worth noting that the tribe has settled in a very peculiar spot: near a large oasis with traces of ruins in the surrounding area. Scouts report various tunnels and caves underneath. Very dark, but designed with immaculate architecture. They figure that the footsteps of past peoples have tread there, leaving behind a legacy -- should you be able to find it. With careful consideration to the ensemble, an advisor asks you if you're sure you want to make this the centre of the civilization you are to build.

I think there are some things that should be clearer: what do we need to live? What do we have? Are there any resources other than sand and stone? Do we have any difference from humans? How many of us are there?

> 1: Erect a camp around the oasis.
> 2: Take stock of resources; how much food do we have, what kind of food is it? Water shouldn't be an issue. Clothes, medicinal supplies, and weaponry are our concern.
> 3: Survey the land. Is there anything else besides the ruins and the oases? What fauna and flora live here? Are there fish in the oasis? What's the weather like?

To GM: Do we control a specific Mystic? Or are we some invisible, outside controller? What are Mystics like, compared to humans?

what do we need to live?
Spiritual/astral energy and water. Since you lack the former in this world, you have to focus on the latter in excess. This was a mechanic I planned to introduce later on down the line.

What do we have?
Specify.

Are there any resources other than sand and stone?
Yes. I mentioned oases (water), and land yet to be discovered which means the entire world isn't sand and stone. Honestly, the write-in kind of contradicted itself, so y'all can find somewhere else to make a settlement or I can work something into the current one.

Do we have any difference from humans?
Yes. On average, Mystics have four or six arms and feelers which they use to communicate and for sensory purposes. And tails, which aren't furry and skin-only like the rest of them. Three eyes (you can guess where the third one is), and odd skin tones.

How many of us are there?
About 100.

Do we control a specific Mystic? Or are we some invisible, outside controller?
You control a 'silent protagonist' Mystic. You're a director. Name, appearance, such on? Unimportant. For the time being.

What are Mystics like, compared to humans?
See above.

To Everyone: Update shortly. Just checking my email and other important stuff. Keep in mind the SG is starting out light, so when you information such as that, you're treading into territory I have yet to map, figuratively speaking.
